Mail message displaying "blocked plug-in"

I used to copy youtube videso and send them to friends via mail... Never had a problem doing so with OSX 10.6.8

NOW alla of a sudden that is not possible and I get a "blocked plug-in" in the body of the message instead of the youtube video...

How do I get to set whatever plug-in I want blocekd or not IN MAIL?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion, I regret A LOT having left 10.6.8

OK, I emailed the site that sends me the email with a flash player embedded and got the following reply:

"It's very possible you're right, that we're using an older version of Flash, so that older browsers and open source types could listen to our music. Unfortunately, I don't think that javascript can be run in an email to auto-detect the right plugin to use.

I'll be looking into this in a few months, when I upgrade to Mountain Lion.

For now, I'm afraid you'll need to click on the links to play the music, like those sad people running windows have always had to do. 😀

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens. You might try emailing whoever sends you the the email with the blocked plugin and see if you get a response. I may be completely off base here but it seems like the only remaining alternative as to the cause of the problem.

My original problem was that MY OWN e-mail messages displayed "blocked plug-in" in Mountain Lion, not just someone else's...and that I could not copy-paste videos from utube any longer.

Given the unbelievable amount of problems that most in various forms seemed interested in denying or attributing to my computer or myself, in spite of disk formatting and clean install, I decided to drop Mountain Lion and UPGRADE to Snow Leopard and now I have had a perfectly funtioning computer again, with a much faster, less memory consuming, less intrusive and less windoz-like system.

I still think different...Apple seems to have dropped the idea...

I'm having the same issue as Sergio. If anyone out there has an answer, I'd love to here it.

My issue is as follows. When copying content from my browser or a web page that contains a flash video and pasting it into Mail, in place of the video there's a message saying "Blocked Plug-in". This wasn't an issue with Snow Leopard and I have the most recent version of Adobe Flash installed.

I have the blocked plugin error in Mac mail and also in Aperture. It seems to happen with my own images, whether they be jpg or gif.

Here is how it started:

Java v 7 did not work for certain web sites, so I found some helpful site that gave information and commands on how to uninstall Java v7 and go back to Java v6. This solved the problem with the web sites that used Java programming, but ever since then I have been getting the blocked plugin problem.

Mac OS 10.8

Anything?

No more blocked plug-in for me: the reason why it is not solved, it's because it is "Apple-caused"...

Months ago I did a clean install reverting to Snow Leopard, did NOT proceed with their so-called "security updates" nor their "Java updates", kept Safari below 5.1 and everything works perfectly, ALSO IN Mail!

The official line is that it is a flash issue, as Apple's regular advocates keep on repeating, however it is NOT.

It is a Java issue and it has to do with the lousy way they decided to solve possible security breaches: through sandboxing and blocking.

I am back to 10.6.8 and I have been doing fine ever since, also considering the lack of RSS Feeds WITHIN Safari 6 and other functions in Mail which were taken off with M.L. and which I use CONSTANTLY every day.

Apple made their choices, and don't seem to ask before ELIMINATING things.

I see lees and less of the "I Think Different" and more and more of the "other O.S." way of thinking.

I was having this problem too. Then I remembered to clean caches. I downloaded Mountain Lion Cache Cleaner, repaired permissions, rebuild prebindings, etc. (see "Maintenance" for more options) and made a deep cache cleaning (also selected the three "clean" options under "Cache Cleaning"). And it seems to have worked. No more "Blocked Plug-in" in the Mail application 🙂

Hope it helps.

hi together

you don't need to download any third party software just use the mac os x integrated programm called "disk utility" and then klick on the klick on the main hard drive on which the mac os x is installed the button "Repair disk permissions"

for me this solved the blocked plugin problem in apple mail. (before it blocked any attachments incl. .png pictures)

now all it's fine.

Mar 20, 2013 8:26 PM in response to sarvesstro

repairing permissions was the first thing I did and did not help at all.

I cloned my 10.6.8 system as I have it now and started-up with the coned system.

At that point I did the security update, and then is when blocked plug-in comes out.

So, I erased that cloned system and keep on going with my 10.6.8 WITHOUT security updates.

Apple doesn't answer because THEY KNOW that they caused the blocked plug-in.

So, if you want your possibility of copying and pasting videos in your own e-mail message and avoid all the blocked plug-in issues, do not download the so called "security updates" after a clean install of 10.6, upgrade your Safari up to 5.1.7, do not upgrade Java, and go up to 10.6.8

EVERYTHING works "fine and dandy".

I've been doing a ton of maintenance since "going to" Mountain Lion - too much, I think.

"Upgrading" to Snow Leopard would work for me, but I'd have to completely re-install my other 2GHz Intel Core Duo iMac, something I'd hate to do because Apple has dropped Intel Core Duo support, I guess a blessing in disguise if I hadn't accepted all the Snow Leopard Security Upgrades on my iMac. If I were to re-install my iMac, I'd go into true "hack mode", because I've used that iMac as a MacPorts development platform for years, and I'd NEVER NEVER NEVER get it back into the state it is currently in. FAIL.

Also, since my PowerMac Dual G5 has been unsupported for so long (what ever happened to the combined PPC and Intel binaries? - I digress), I couldn't even upgrade that FINE BOX to Snow Leopard. FAIL.

My PowerMac Dual G5 box is on my LAN, fortunately, because it's video card burned out years ago (EXPENSIVE replacement and not many video cards were made for this server's architecture), so I can Screen Share into the Dual G5, use its Mac Mail, and all is glorious in terms of embedded youtube vidoes.

Here's the technical details that I really wanted to share before digressing:

No matter which of my servers that I author and view a "copy and pasted" youtube video in Mac Mail (Mac OS X 10.5.8 Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 aka r2d2, Mac OS X 10.6.8 2GHz Intel Core Duo aka c3p0, or Mac OS X 10.8.3 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 aka laptop), only r2d2 can view the content, and c3p0 and laptop cannot. Yay for the underdog i.e. r2d2.

Forgot to mention - I did all the cache cleaning, disk repair, etc. etc. etc. to no avail. The Mac OS X 10.8.3 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 laptop COULD NOT cut and paste youtube video from Safari into Mac Mail without blocking the content. Hmmmm... Note to self - consider resurrecting Microsoft Entourage (now refered to as Outlook) to see how well Microsoft Mail from Microsoft Office handles youtube video content. Ewwww - The idea of it; low priority task.
