Power Nap not working correctly

Hummm...looks like if I close the lid, Power Nap works.

If I leave the lid open and let the screensaver time out it doesn't work even though I have the power saver set to sleep after 15 minutes.

Same problem for me. I have a 2011 MacBook Air, installed powernap update, I see the option in preferences, it's enabled, but the computer won't update while the lid is closed (and connected or not connected to power). It also won't back up to time capsule when connected to power...

Yes, not just a rMBP problem. Also, to clarify based on what other's have discussed in this thread, it doesn't seem to make a difference whether my lid is closed or whether the computer simply went to sleep after not being used for a while.

I wonder if reinstalling the firmware update helps?

I tried this, but upon opening the installer I recieved an error message saying the update isn't supported on my system, which makes no sense because I have a MacBook Pro w/ Retina. Possibly because it detects it's been installed already.

I gave it a try on my rMBP and got a partial fix. Now Time Machine will run when the machine is asleep. It works when the lid is closed or open.

However, Mail still isn't being processed in either case.

Scanning Console's log I can see find the Time Machine backups while the rMBP is sleeping, but during the same period, I didn't find any reference to Mail at all.

For Time Machine I'm using a newish Time Capsule. I also have a USB 3.0 drive I'm using for SuperDuper, but I don't keep it plugged into the rMBP.

I took the advice in here and did an SMC reset on my 2011 air. Nothing seemed to happen during SMC reset, but powernap does appear to be working now. For what it's worth, my computer originally updated te SMC while I was still running lion. ML was installed subsequently. Maybe this order had something to do with it? Does this hold true for anyone else?

Also, powernap now seems to be working, but mail and iMessages don't appear to be getting checked.

Yeah, about the same for me. Time Machine is backing up, but Mail isn't being processed. It also looks like Calendar isn't being updated either.

This may be an inept conclusion, but I notice that after I wake my rMBP from sleep, the WiFi has to reconnect with my network, suggesting it disconnects while sleeping...possibly prohibiting Power Nap from functioning?

I was seeing the same issue whereby power nap was not doing anything. I tried the SMC update and now it take my retinal Macbook Pro almost a minute to shutdown instead of 5-10 seconds.

Anyone have a clue why that would be?
