MagSage 2 is INDEED a lot looser than its predecessor. For the time being I am afraid there is no workaround. So you have to be more careful about it if you don't want it to disconnect so easily.

Couldn't agree more with pretty much everyone.

I am the proud owner of a Macbook Air 11', and I love it.

Only one thing spoils this relationship for me, and that is the new Magsafe. It is a complete lottery whether the it even connects sometimes, and it requires a lot of jiggling about to get the green light and then the orange one. Constantly re-connecting it while charging is shredding my battery.

What a shame that such a stunning product should be spoiled by such a small but significant dip in quality control.

    Thanks for listening.

Surely there is a 3rd party hardware solution to this. All you need is a stronger magnet.

    Please bring it.

Same problem here with our MBP 15" retina.  Apple replaced the entire adapter for this to fix the constant disconnection of the newly designed plug to the magnet in the body of the MBP.

No luck. same problem- very dissasistfied customer that has been a loyal "fan" of all their products.

If Apple is listening, they should correct this annoying problem right away.

Good luck to any of you in finding a solution; if you do please come back here and post!

This really is very very disappointing. it really diminishes my use of the computer as I am constantly aware of the fact that the slightest movement will unplug the magsafe cable. Plus im sure it is f'ing upm my battery in the process. So disappointing. Does anyone know if Apple have made a comment on this?

Hi, mine falls off my 11" MBA frequently. I charge the MBA on a flat surface with the cord placed just so to keep it from disconnecting. I have not used the MBA while charging. Can't imagine the cord remaining in place if I did.

The disconnects seem to happen more easily than when the MBA was new two months ago. Does the magnet weaken with use?

I brought every macbook (white, pro, air) in the past and I can confirmed that the latest magssafe 2 is the worst magsafe ever made: it's quite impossible to sit down in an armchair or in a bed without disconnect it, whatever care you take. At quite every movement of macbook, the cable will unplug.

Apple should consider a recall of every new model of macbook and a replacement of magsafe cable.

It can't make such design fault and big mistake with its clients.

If they did that then they would need to do the rMBP's also.

    Utterly useless!

I'm pretty sure a flat profile plug (see below) would make a big difference because it feels like the main culprit is the leverage caused by the cable sticking out 90degrees to the machine.

Is there such an accessory though?

    Just found this online also.

It's pretty **** ugly but if absolutely necessary looks like it prevents the cable from detaching.

I am getting a MacBook Air and I was wondering if the MacBook Air late 2012 has a better MagSafe port or does the early/mid 2012 MacBook Air have a stronger MagSafe port

Mine is the mid-2012 and it is not stronger. It is really horrible.

this connector (mid 2011) is the best magsafe

    250px-Right_Angle_Magsafe.jpg

this one is the worst (mid 2012)

    MAC-113A-3.jpg

as already said, I owned every macbook with magsafe made, and the last one (mid 2012) is not only terrible,

it's a design fault of apple

it would be called SureUnplug, not MagSafe

    do you agree?

net051 My experience does not agree with that at all.

I have a mid 2011 macbook air with a connector like the one in your first picture, and whilst it doesn't disconnect all the time like some have reported, it is also not "safe" -at all-.

Every time anybody has tripped over the cable the computer has been pulled crashing to the floor. This has nothing to do with the strength of the magnet and everything to do with the cretinous design of the later right-angle connector. It is such a good fit into the rectangular recess in the computer case around the connector that a pull on the cable is directly exerted by the metal lug of the cable onto the body of the computer - completely defeating the object of a safely magnetically secured connector. The magnetic force is at 90 degrees to the force of the pull so could never work as a safety device.

The -only- good magsafe I have had on an Air was the original Air connector, with the tapered lug on the cable connector. This always pulled free of the computer before pulling the computer off the desk, as one would expect from the design, none of the subsequent ones work in any useful way at all.

The lower connector I have on my 17" MacBook Pro and my wife's 13" Macbook Pro, where it has always worked as expected.

I agree - the new Magsafe 2 connector:-

    1. Comes out way too easily
    2. Looks terrible - like it was designed by a 5 year old
    3. Sticks out like a dogs bxlls

Why change something that worked fine?

True.  There is definitely too small of a pull force to where the Apple MacBook Pro (I have the retina one) MagSafe plug constantly comes loose- what a PIA and distraction during use!!!

Apple should really investigate this issue to stay ahead.
