After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot convert Chinese characters anymore

i only have MS office 2011 and unfortunately no... i'll still looking for a solution.

I have the same problem too. I hope somebody can post a solution rather than back the whole iMac up and clean reinstall it. Thanks.

FYI all. According to https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/chinesemac/4Eti6n_seU8 , MS Office (2008 and 2011) can't do it but other programs can like TextEdit. So basically need to copy and paste between them and Office. 😟

There is no "ChineseText ConverterService", on convert from traditional....And how to copy?

Did you follow his instructions?

1. go to /system/library/services and copy "ChineseTextConverterService" to desktop.

2. quit all running applications.

3. log out and log in again.

4. move "ChineseTextConverterService" from desktop back to where it was. when asked click on "replace".

5. log out and log in again.

6. of course boxes of "convert text from..." under system preference/keyboard/keyboard shortcuts/services/text should be checked (turn on)

Yes, I'm running Maverick. Chinese Converting Service does not appear in MS Word but does in TextEdit only. What's worse, TextEdit cannot open docx correctly or cannot show what I copied from docx opened in MS Word.

It does not appear in Page either.

I performed what Tom Gewecke suggested but no help.

Why did Apple withdraw the service from Word? How can I convert the whole docx from traditional Chinese to Simplified Chinese or vice versa by one batch?

If you are running Mavericks, you should search/post in the forum for that, since it may be totally different than Mountain Lion addressed in this forum.

Try OpenOffice. Select text and go to Tools > Language > Chinese Conversion.

This is not true. I used to run Office for Mac 2011 on Snow Leopard. The converter was there. No problem there. And now with Mavericks upgrade it's gone...

You seem to have missed the point that antdude was talking about Mountain Lion. Nobody has a problem with Snow Leopard or Lion. But it was gone for Mountain Lion and it is still gone for Mavericks.

Sorry, apparently I misunderstood. I thought both he and the thread he referred to says it's Office 2011 that doesn't work, as in "disregarding the system". I apologize.

Yes, your description is right.

I followed your advice and have found that

1. No Chinese conversion in Microsoft Office

2. No Chinese conversion in Open Office

3. Chinese conversion SHOWS in TextEdit

It is obvious a bug in Mac OS but it has not been solved since Mountain Lion and even not yet in Mavericks!

Open Office has its own Chinese conversion system (Tools > Language > Chinese Conversion) which does in fact work. But Spacenewt has told me elsewhere that this app is not adquate for many purposes.
