Thank you very much.. 🙂 ...i bought a USB HUB before 3-4 years ago, because I knew that in the future I'll use it.. 🙂
USB HUB2.o is the only solution...
At least for the E3131, there is a firmware and software update available that are meant to fix this issue.
The one I know of was released by my ISP and there is nothing available at the Huawei website, so you might need to contact either Huawei or who you bought your modem from.
Can you please link me to update? I havee 3131
GOT IT WORKING! Basically the installer package within the app bundle should launch automatically but it doesn't! just go inside the app bundle "right click on the app and select 'show package contents' ". and try and locate the installer package. double click and let it install. unplug and re plug the modem. done!
DarkAngelPT, AceNeerav any chance to get that link / update too?
This is the link to the website of the ISP that I mentioned, where all the updates are made available to customers:
Search for E3131AS and below there is a firmware and a software update.
Check that your device is the same model (E3131As) and if your firmware version is older than 21.158.13.00.58. Is both are true, you might try the firmware update (at your own risk).
If that doesn't solve it you can try the latest version of the software (unbranded) that is available on the Huawei website at:
I can't find any firmware updates at the Huawei website.
Thanks for replying.
Unfortunately my modem is E3131s-2EW, that makes me kind of reluctant to upgrade the firmware.
Guess I just need to put an extra Hub in my bag 🙂
It's a firmware issue. It will only connect via an USB 2.0 HUB.
Huawei has a firmware update for the modem but you won't find it anywhere. It's being distributed only via the carriers. The MobilePartner application update will not help.
**There is hope.**
Search for "E3131Update_21.158.00.00.1020.B757.exe" and "Universal MasterCode.exe" on google.
The Mastercode application is required for the firmware update code. You'll find it on torrents sites. Launch it and select general huawei dongle and input your dongle IMEI.
I got it working for my MacBook Air 2013 and MacBook Pro 2012, with 10.8 and 10.9 (Developer Preview) with this firmware update.
As i know, there is no driver installation in HUAWEI E3131, it's PnP USB Stick. You can check your PC, did it forbidden the auto run of the driver. It's based on Web 2.0 management.
Hi,
Yes, the USB Hub is working well on my MBP Retina (March 2013). I used one of the usb port of my apple usb keyboard to connect my 3G USB Stick E3131 and it is fully working. It was not working at all when I plugged it directly in one of the USB slot of the laptop.
Hope this will help others to resolve the problem.
I also needed to use this trick. I'm going to put my specifics below so that people with the same problem can hopefully find this answer through Google et al.
Problem: Mac Mini 2013 with USB3 port does not work with T-Mobile NL Huawei Mobile Broadband E352 HSPA+ USB stick.
Solution: Use a USB2 middleman. In my case an old Apple Cinema display with integrated USB2 hub.
Also in Dutch for Nederlanders:
Probleem: T-Mobile Huawei E352 dongle / dongel werkt niet op Mac Mini 2013. De dongle werkt niet doordat de Mac USB3 poorten heeft. USB2 apparaten op USB3 horen gewoon te werken, maar de firmware op de dongle zorgt toch voor een probleem.
Oplossing: Gebruik een USB2 hub tussen de dongle en de Mac. Alles werkt soepel en direct.
Guys,
download this app and Huawei E3131 (and may be other devices) will work with USB 3.0

I instulled it on my MacBook Air mid2013 and all works now
Download Telstra Connection Manager (regardless of the network - i'm using a Virgin modem). Install the driver, then after you restart you should find the huawei modem under Network in System prefs. Just set up your APN and off you go! Don't waste more $$ buying a USB hub. Took all of five mins to fix for me!
