This is the link to the website of the ISP that I mentioned, where all the updates are made available to customers:

http://www.optimus.pt/Particulares/Kanguru/ApoioAoCliente/Topicos/ConfigsDownloa ds/Downloads/Upgrades

Search for E3131AS and below there is a firmware and a software update.

Check that your device is the same model (E3131As) and if your firmware version is older than 21.158.13.00.58. Is both are true, you might try the firmware update (at your own risk).

If that doesn't solve it you can try the latest version of the software (unbranded) that is available on the Huawei website at:

http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/downloadCenter.do?method=index&directoryId =3372&treeId=0&tb=1&type=software

I can't find any firmware updates at the Huawei website.

It's a firmware issue. It will only connect via an USB 2.0 HUB.

Huawei has a firmware update for the modem but you won't find it anywhere. It's being distributed only via the carriers. The MobilePartner application update will not help.

**There is hope.**

Search for "E3131Update_21.158.00.00.1020.B757.exe" and "Universal MasterCode.exe" on google.

The Mastercode application is required for the firmware update code. You'll find it on torrents sites. Launch it and select general huawei dongle and input your dongle IMEI.

I got it working for my MacBook Air 2013 and MacBook Pro 2012, with 10.8 and 10.9 (Developer Preview) with this firmware update.

I also needed to use this trick. I'm going to put my specifics below so that people with the same problem can hopefully find this answer through Google et al.

Problem: Mac Mini 2013 with USB3 port does not work with T-Mobile NL Huawei Mobile Broadband E352 HSPA+ USB stick.

Solution: Use a USB2 middleman. In my case an old Apple Cinema display with integrated USB2 hub.

Also in Dutch for Nederlanders:

Probleem: T-Mobile Huawei E352 dongle / dongel werkt niet op Mac Mini 2013. De dongle werkt niet doordat de Mac USB3 poorten heeft. USB2 apparaten op USB3 horen gewoon te werken, maar de firmware op de dongle zorgt toch voor een probleem.

Oplossing: Gebruik een USB2 hub tussen de dongle en de Mac. Alles werkt soepel en direct.
