Bad range with Microsoft Arc touch mouse

My Microsoft Touch Arc mouse has terrible range if the mouse is more then a foot from the dongle plugged into my Macbook Pro. The mouse is jumpy and almost impossibe to use. I've installed the software/drivers and it doesn't change anything. Has anyone else come across this issue and if so what was the resolution?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I have had the same problem, turns out that it is due to the macbook usb ports being on the other stide of the computer. For some reason the usb transmitter has problems transmitting through the all the metal in the macbook. This happens the most often to me when the laptop and mouse are sitting on a leve surface.

Fixes are:

-elevating mouse to avoid interference from laptop body

-getting a usb cable extender to reposition reciever

-get a new mouse because above two fixes are annoying and shouldnt have to be dealt with in a quality product such as this.
