iCal notification from shared calendars

Hello,

I'm using iCal for sharing my work calendar with my wife. Every time, when I chage something in my calendar, my wife gets notification in her iCal

User uploaded file

It would be ok with just one event. However, I'm working shifts (hopefully that's correct expresion 🙂) and every month I add about 20 events, so my wife gets 20 notifications with the button "OK". In OS X Lion, the calendar just changed and that was all. In Mountain Lion it shows you notification about everything. Can I turn it off somehow?

Thanks 🙂

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion

Thanks for your response, I appreciate it.

Unfortunately the "Shared Calendar Alerts" option only seems to have affect on the notification center alerts - not the little "invitations" tray at the top of iCal and at the bottom right of the Calendar app.

I have "New Invitation Alerts" OFF

and "Shared Calendar Alerts" OFF on 2 iPhone4s (tried a few restarts)

and on iCal there are 2 similar settings that mention the Notification Center also - with these settings checked iCal is still showing all changes from shared calendars.

iCloud calendar is doing the same.

It seems like an oversight.

I have the exact same problem--as soon as I upgraded my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S to IOS 6, each device displayed thirteen pop-up notifications for invitations to events in my wife's shared calendars. I would say this issue isn't limited to Mountain Lion, because all of my Macs are running Lion. Plus, my wife uses her iPad almost exclusively, and I haven't upgraded her devices yet.

I really don't want to get a popup alarm on my IOS devices every time my wife adds or changes something in her calendars, and I'm sure she feels the same way about changes I make to my calendars.

Thank goodness there weren't a hundred of these invitations--I couldn't use the phone until I had acknowledged each notification. That was not fun. There really should have been a way, when upgrading to IOS6, to opt out when the first pop-up appears.

I'll checking in here, and looking for a way to turn these off. They show up in icloud.com too, with no visible way of disabling them. Perhaps they have to be turned off at the device that creates or modifies the events.

Yes I agree, that cascade of alerts that interupted the upgrade were ridiculous and they spoiled the usualy slick process of upgrading - couldn't access the device until they were all acknowledged.

The notification center you can turn off, it's those tray alerts that will build up. At the very least there needs to be a way to multi-clear them -- but why bother, there may as well be an option to turn them off.

I accidentaly found out that it might be not that bad as it is seems now. My mum yesterday updated her calendar, which she shares with me (her shifts at work), and I got just one notification which said that she updated 42 events. So there werent 42 same notifications, but just one. I don't know what is the number, but from some amount of changes, it doesn't show them separately, but just one for all...

Same problem for me:

-I have all alert notifications turned off.

-My wife updates her Calendar on her iPhone 3 (so not iOS 6)

-I get an "Invitation" on both my iPad and iPhone, each running iOS 6.

-The Invitation does not show up in online iCloud or on MacBook.

This is clearly an iOS 6 bug, as the problem did not exist till I updated and only occurs on iOS 6 devices. Like others, when I first updated I was swamped by dozens of invitations and alerts that essentially usurped my iPad and iPhone, until I deleted each one individually.

I look forward to a fix from Apple - although I'm not holding my breath.

This is a complete joke. Apple have ignored this problem since MobileMe: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2563554?start=45&tstart=0. Hope iCloud would fix - it didn't. Now its got worse with every individual new event in my shared calendars creating an alert for my wife.

To be honest, I've given up. I can only conclude this is a bug that Apple are incapable of fixing. The original thread I have copied above now has over 16,000 views and this thread is already approaching 2,000 views. They are either incompetent or simply don't care.

How incredibly frustrating.

Not that I am aware of, I'm not getting intrusive alerts, but I currently have over 50 changes in the Calendar "Invitations" tray on my iPhone (and OS X) that I'm just ignoring. I'm going to leave them there and see if Apple have built some sort of 'aging' into them - they may eventually drop off.. wishful thinking.
