ML issues after standby/sleep

I upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday and I've been having a big problem with my 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro crashing in a very bizzare way, typically after being in standby/sleep mode.

It starts up from standby/sleep and programs that were open before standby/sleep are hung and can not be "Quit" - they just sit there hung up - force quit will not work either. If I try to start certain apps e.g. Activity Monitor it just bounces forever. The system can not be retarted or shutdown. The system is usless. The only way I can get my system back is to open term and issue a reboot command. I ran a fix on the permissions on the boot drive and also checked for any other errors.

Any recommendations as to how to get my system back?

i have tried the same as You, with no luck, but i noticed that mine freezes when i close the lid with open apps (say Mail, Pages, etc). Weird huh? also 10.8.2 messed up my bluetooth and my iSight, they just stop working. Boot up with a Ubuntu Live CD and everything works, boot up with ML and everything works for awhile. Decided to reinstal ML 10.8 and it worked fine, after a couple of days instaled 10.8.2 and i got the problem again, so "sigh".

I hope this info will help someone here. I'm running a mid-2009 17" MacBook Pro (5,2). After experiencing the same problems found in this thread with my new OWC 6G Electra SSD, I talked with tech support, updated their firmware, waited for a couple of Mountain Lion updates, reinstalled Mountain Lion, sent in the new SSD in exchange for another SSD of the same type (tech support thought it was a hardware problem on their end), installed the new SSD and transfered all my files (again) all to experience the same problems (again).

BUT, after spending an hour chatting with tech support another time, they finally found the issue, and it's been noted on their website now (even though the 6G Electra Drive still comes up as the compatible SSD for my MacBook Pro):

2008/2009 MacBook/MacBook Pro 13", 15", and 17" models. (Model IDs: MacBookPro5,1; 5,2; 5,3; 5,4; 5,5 and MacBook5,1)

While a 6G SSD does function, it will only do so at SATA Revision 1.0 (1.5Gb/s) speeds rather that the SATA Revision 2.0 (3.0Gb/s) speed the machine can deliver. Should owners of these machines desire another SSD option, the Mercury Electra 3G SSD does run at the full SATA Revision 2.0 (3Gb/s) specification.

So for those experiencing these problems with a third-party SSD, you may want to consider the SATA Revision speeds being the cause of your problems. OWC sent me a 3G Electra SSD, and so far everything is working great. While it was a frustrating experience, OWC was very helpful and very gracious. So I appreciate their help with this!
