Email in Exchange inbox disappear in Mail

I have a slightly different problem. Mail syncs with Exchange fine and I have not experienced the changed mail server issues the others have been experiencing. However, once in a while, the mail from my Exchange inbox would all disappear from Mail as if the whole Inbox is empty (save for emails from other servers like Gmail, iCloud). Originally, I thought it was a sync problem so I deleted the account and then set it up again and waited painfully for everything to sync back in. However, this phenomenom still happened randomly once in a while. This time, I just close the Mail program and restart it and then everything is back to normal.

While this is a workaround, it is nevertheless very annoying. Has anyone else experienced this with Mail and Exchange server 2007? Any ideas how this can be fixed? Thanks.

I also tried the IMAP approach and it seemed to work except sometimes there mail that shows in the mailbox that has been deleted on the server so you get an error when trying to delete it again. Also, if you set it up as IMAP, don't you have to specify an SMTP server to handle out-going mail? I had to do it with a third party SMTP so mail gets sent but does not sync with my Exchange Sent folder. Because of this, I had to switch back to setting up Mail for Exchange Server.

i hope this will be fixed soon, i have allready a mac based client reverting back from exchange to a linux imap only

as imap with many mailboxes (shared) is also not workable from exchange.. in mac mail.

outlook is ok, but it is slower and there is no unified mailbox with delegation, and to workarround with imap makes it too slow again.. so please fix it or me this bug hast cost me a lot of $$ ⚠

I am having the same issues and I have multiple Hosted Exchange Accounts. I have unchecked Autodiscover and made the internal server address match the external server address. Hopefully this will work.

I have found a fix that is working for me!

An unrelated problem caused me to restore from a time machine backup (which had been made well after installing the mountain lion update). The next time mail opened it went through this set up process that ended with a window explaining all the new features of mail in mountain lion. Success. My mail box is now behaving perfectly! All my folders are visible, all my mail is visible and everything is stable. No more disappearing mail.

I am so happy to be able to come back to mail - outlook has been a beast.
