Mountain Lion disconnect from Ethernet in sleep mode

I have a late 2009 iMac running Mountain Lion. I use a program called LogMeIn to remotely access my iPhone from other computers and my iPhone. This app worked in Lion, since it was able to work even if my iMac was in sleep mode. However, in Mountain Lion, my iMac looses connection to both my Ethernet and Wi-Fi when it is in sleep mode, renedering LogMeIn useless. In order to use it, I had to sett sleep to never in the Energy Saver prefrences.

So basically, all networking stops on sleep, on both Ethernet and Wi-Fi. I did not encounter this problem in Lion, but ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion it's been happening. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this? Is anyone else havin

If you have not, I would go to your "Applications" folder>System Preferences>Energy Saver> and check the box "Wake for Network Access".

Hope this helps 🙂

I can confirm that this does not work with WiFi on my iMac 2011.

Exactly same as before: sleep-turn off wifi-awake- turn on wifi (takes time and Notifier for Gmail times out)

No good:

we are shooting in the dark: is there anybody out there who understands the ins and outs of network calls and sleep behaviour??

Apple is not doing anything about it.....😢

Hi,

2 months and counting with no issues.

Recently I bought a new Macbook Pro 17" late 2011, it came with Lion and to test this issue I upgrated to ML, no issues at all, both LAN and WIFI enabled and I can wake it with Netawake on both interfaces from my iPhone, I used defaults for network configuration (DHCP), I did not do SMC reset and safe mode restart, I just ran install from ground and updated to ML.

The only thing I can think of there might be different from others, is that I have DHCP reserved IP addresses on all units in my house.

My router is PFsense 2.0.1 on soekris net6501 HW and use default DHCP settings besides DHCP reservations.

So the question is, if this is related to upgrade issues, did someone try a clean install?

What did you do? Did you have the PROBLEM under 10.8.1?

It would be really helpful to explain what you did.

I believe (?) that this issue has to do with having installed 10.8 on top of 10.7.x with a subsequent restore of an old OS X file system.

Somewhere the sleep function turns off all network calls ans suspends all automatic downloads, mail checks, Skype connections, etc.

As I said before, this is a major disaster for Apple's OS X system: how can one have the computer making no difference between Sleep mode and completely OFF from the main switch???

Apple apple apple: no solution to this yet.

No reply to my bug report and developer report: forget your customers and users and the end is nigh!!!😠

No, it doesnt have to do with installing on top of 10.7.x

This problem is plaguing my brand new MacBook Pro Retina which shipped with 10.8

The problem was not rectified by 10.8.1 nor 10.8.2

My service call to Apple still hasn't yielded any solution. It has been sent up to Enginneering who claim "We've never seen this before" - clearly from this forum, that's not true.

They got me to remove some LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons - but of course that made no difference.

The same problem occurs with all user accounts on my Mac.

This problem was here since Lion in my case... When 10.8.2 came out, I decided to install it clean on my iMac and MacBook Pro. Without any backups. After the install I made a reset of the PRAM and caches...

iMac is connected to Time Caspule with the latest update and my MacBook Pro is connected to my Time Capsule or AirPort Express depending where it is.

The only times my iMac was disconnect was when my router was restarting because I didn't have internet for an hour or two (they're building an house across the street).

These quotes come from

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Note: OS X does not store network settings in NVRAM / PRAM. If you are troubleshooting a network issue, resetting it will not help.

Information stored in NVRAM / PRAM includes:

  • Speaker volume
  • Screen resolution
  • Startup disk selection
  • Recent kernel panic information, if any

Some earlier Macs store these settings in PRAM:

Status of AppleTalk

Serial Port Configuration and Port definition

Alarm clock setting

Application font

Serial printer location

Autokey rate

Autokey delay

Speaker volume

Attention (beep) sound

Double-click time

Caret blink time (insertion point rate)

Mouse scaling (mouse speed)

Startup disk

Menu blink count

Monitor depth

32-bit addressing

Virtual memory

RAM disk

Disk cache

CONCLUSION:

the reset of PRAM etc. does not affect network settings: Apple itself confirms it very clearly!!

So, still nothing helpful on this issue!
