Safari 6 does not fill username and password fields

Since my update to ML 10.8 and Safari 6.0, all my websites with stored passwords don't get their username / password fields populated.

My settings seem to be correct, with the checkbox checked in Preferences to fill the password fields automatically, and I see my usernames / passwords in the Password tab for the websites.

I also reinitialized Safari, except for clearing out the passwords (because I want to keep them, of course), but still no success

Any idea what's going on in Safari 6?

This is so ******* annoying, Safari dont remember my username in facebook, gmail, tumblr, this forum, hotmail, flickr, vimeo, and all of the websites where i have an account, Chrome does that. what is the problem with Safari 6.0.5 ? HEEEEEELP

I don't know if this of any help but... I've done a few coding examples with web FORM and Safari and here's a brief summary of my observations:

if the username or password INPUT field has the "autocomplete='off'" option, Safari will populate the username / password fields. (According to the standard, this is not what the option is supposed to do...)
for some strange reason, if the form had a SELECT option, it would not populate the fields (although I have not been able to have a consistent behaviour with this).

So what is the impact to this? Well, if like me, you use Mac OS X Server and their Wiki, well, the username / password are not saved... in their own application... (And by the way, why is there a "Remember me" checkbox if it never works? Anybody understands what it does??).

I haven't spent too much time on this, but it someone would have "rules" on how to configure a FORM element (and its children) in order for Safari to save the information, that would probably help us understand (and help programmers make the right design choices).

Well, everyone following this thread should be happy to know that this is fixed in Safari 7! Actually, Apple has done something quite interesting: they've added an extra security layer that forces you to check a box if you want to bypass the "do not Autofill" requests from web sites.

This option is located under Preferences --> Passwords.

So, simply check this box and Safari pretty much saves every password you want.

Wow, that is some good news! And I can happily report it works with all the websites I was having probelms with. Yet I never read anything about it in the update announcement. So I was still having the problem and frustrated until this post.
