Macbook Pro with Retina, Mountain Lion graphic jitters

Lion wasn't the best performer on my Macbook Pro with Retina, however, the issues that were supposed to be resolved in Mountain Lion seem to have actually gotten worse. Switching spaces and going in and out of Mission Control is still just as laggy, but other problems have arrissen too. For example, scrolling over my dock, the magnification animation is choppy. Also, when I command to show the desktop the windows jitter for a second. Or when scrolling through web pages in safari or chrome, it jitters as I'm scrolling, or when I hit the top and bottom of a page and it snaps back. Overall, the entire expeirence just seems very unpolisshed, and after spending $2,500 on a new machine, I'm pretty dissapointed in the UI experience.

Anyone else experiencing these problem, or have solutions?

Thanks in advance!

I recently bought Mac Book Pro Retina and this is my 4th pro. Everything seemed OK but when I started going to mission control and expose (even with fewer windows), my rMBP is sluggish then my last year MBP (I have double windows opened and it way smoother than rMBP).

I went to the Genesis bar and got really disappointed. One for the reason that the person there does not even recognize there is lag. According to the person, it is OK and acceptable. Since when Apple started making acceptable products. I thought Apple always makes exceptional products and it puts lot of effort on these animations to make them smooth and lag free.

Second reason, the person said if I am not happy I can return.

Thirdly, it seemed as he/she does not even have enough know of Mac OS. As in Mountain Lion the 'Software Update...' is part of App Store Update, he has no clue about it and said I was doing somthing wrong.

Forth, I showed this (and other such posts on Apple Support related to lag issue) and response was that this is only happening to few people. Does that mean there is no issue since there are few people?

I never expeceted Apple to ship a product which is not at par in UI as per Apples own standards. I might return it back if Apple does not solve issue with rMBP.

rMBP (2.3GHz, 16GB, Intel 4000, Nvidia 1GB) old MBP (2.3GHz, 8GB, Intel 3000, Raedon 1GB).

Same for me.... My several year old iMac, my iPad, iPhone and iPod touch all put my new upgraded model rMBP (2.6 i7 512GB w/16RAM) to shame when it comes to a smooth operating experience. Hangs and lags in Aperture and iPhoto, jumpy when going back and forth from full screen, etc. Very disappointed.... Borrowed a friends two year old MBP the other day and put it right next to my new machine....the old was just as fast and a lot smoother. I have great faith Apple will address this....just adding my post to help bring some attention to this. Thanks in advance, Apple!

I was just about to order my new system... DEFINITELY thinking twice about this now. Waiting to hear some positive remarks about this display.

First, I'm a developer and want higher *crisp* resolution. I heard Mountain Lion offers full retina resolution. Is this true? And if so, is it usable? I can't really imagine it isn't since I can change font sizes, etc, in all my apps. But that's just what I think: what is reality?

Next, are the stuttering animation issues related to retina, the new mbp, or Mountain Lion?

Sorry, Apple, but you're going to have to impress *somebody* before you get my next three grand.

I have also interface lag issues. In safari sometimes it happens,

Can anyone explain me is it software or hardware issues ? Will it bexied with software updates in future ? or they fool us ?

BTW, few days ago i posted this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4238661 it's also one funny bug with new retina and new mountain lion OS. 😟

I have Samsung screen and I like how it looks like. The most important point why I'm disappoint is interface lags.

Is there any way how to measure real FPS ?

P.S. Even when skype is calling to me, and after i'll pick up the phone (clicking on green button) i hear sound lag for a seond maybe not more. I mean sound of incoming call, not user speach. Skype version is: 5.8.0.1027

I noticed the same stuttering issues on my MBP 17 purchased in June 2012. This did not happen with Lion, but began with mountain lion. It happens in text-typing fields and interfaces (particularly bad on Facebook - but that might be them only) Not having problem as I type here. Also occurs on other text-editing controls - seems most prevalent in Safari. It appears that the backspace/delete key has been pressed some number of times, and the text just typed disappears, but still exists. Upon typing more, the "hidden" text reappears, and this random hiding of the last characters typed continues to cycle. In addition, on scrolling, I am finding the repaint of the screen display becomes quite jumbled.

My 2 cents.

I have a Macbook Pro Retina with 2.7 Ghz and 16 GB. Everything was going well and since updating to Mountain Lion two days ago I noticed display performance issues and finder issues:

- selecting items in finder, sometimes there is a 1 second lag where before on Lion it was immediate. (This is the one issue that I have noticed impacts my workflow).

- Dragging windows there is a stutter (rendering issue) On Lion it was smooth. Sometime fragments of the window remain in the position where the window was before.

- When "minimising" windows / applications into the dock the also stutter as they animate in or out and I notice that when they come out, there is a microsecond display error (essentially content disappears and then appears).

- Finder window overlapping jungle - at times it overlapping windows get all screwed up and partial fragments are left all over the screen. (This is really disruptive)

- Top finder menusometimes only partially displays.

- Fragment/display issues appearing in Firefox browser (both with a single monitor and external monitor)

- Fonts changed in Simple Text (non RTF) Why?

Surprised that a pretty new laptop only needs to have the first OS update to already start feeling the pinch. I am really disappointed with the upgrade, sure I spot a few new features but at the cost of creating display errors on current model computers it is not very nice.

Here is a solution that worked in the past:

1) Download Quartz Debug (can be found in graphics_tools_for_xcode.dmg) and start the app

2) Under the Beam Sync preferences, select "Force"

The gui should be much more smooth with this option / I remember using that on my PowerBook G4 at some point. I tried it this morning and it worked pretty well.

I too am having the same problem, 15' MacbookPro with Retina display, 256 Gb disk.

This is definitely a bug as it doesn't always happen. I never saw the issue until I've upgraded to Mountain Lion.

It happens 99% of the time when I plug the external monitor, but also happens very often when using only the builtin monitor.

When the stuttering occurs animations flash back and forth, it's not just that they are slow. For example when you drag the mouse from the bottom right side of the screen to reach the dock (with dock magnify animation active), you'll see the dock start to magnify, then contract somewhat again, then magnigy again (all within say 0.5 seconds).

Similarly when doing the 4 fingers zoom to show the desktop, then doing the opposite movement the windows will come back to the center with their edges rapidly flashing, as if the animation frames of the animation were in the wrong order.

Anyone knows how to report this kind of problem to Apple?

Thanks.

Regards,
Flavio.

Hi folks,

it seems that the Macbook Pro Retina make serious problems.

My experience so far:

I've a Macbook Pro Retina, 2.7, 16 RAM and bought it few weeks ago.

I am very shocked with the graphic problems this machine have. Switching to mission control or scrolling in safari or just switching between applications like safari, ical, and mail in fullscreen mode is very sluggish.

My Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011 in comparison to that had no problems. Every animation was very smooth.

So I went through the internet for hope that there is a fix but I couldn't find anything yet.

I also installed the app called gfxStatusCard, which can switch between both graphic cards. So I experienced that with switching to NVIDIA this problems seems to be get better but unfortunatelly not optimized:(

Do anyone know a fix or is there solution by Apple?

Thanks for your helps
