I think it's not just on older systems. My MB is 6 months old and it's not Nvidia issue like somebody else mentioned, because I have Intel HD 3000. Since I downgraded to Lion everything is rock solid so it's not hardware failure either.

It could be bug in WindowServer. It seems that freezing is triggered by GUI interactions, like minimizing windows, switching windows, etc.

Can anybody post their console output please, so we can compare messages?

Next time when freezing occurs remember what is the time. Then when you turn on mac again go to Launchpad -> Others -> Console and search for that time.

Aug 6, 2012 3:30 AM in response to iZeko

I believe I've found mine in Console but I'm not sure how to copy and paste from it, I don't seem to be able to select it and copy it?

However, the line which (in my totally ignorant!) eyes is the one which stands out is this:

05/08/2012 21:42:29 WindowServer: CGXGetConnectionProperty: Invalid connection 58115

This is repeated 5 times in a row. Then there are a couple of other lines - and then that line is again repeated 5 times in a row.

Question: Do you all have One Password? (Wondering if the Safari Plugin has anything to do with it.)

As a last resort, how do I go about downgrading to Lion?

Aug 6, 2012 3:43 AM in response to Jozie

Select first message, then holding shift select last one and cmd + c. This should copy selected messages into clipboard.

Do you have any messages similar to mine from previous post? (**** Debug info for *possible* hang in MAIN graphics engine ****)

I have 1Password.

If you purchased Lion from App Store you could download it from there. You can then burn image to dvd or usb. You can search on google how to burn Lion to dvd. For newer Macs shipped with Lion you should go to recovery console with cmd + option + r.

Well I would say that that crash was a bit different to the previous crashes which have been happening. The crash above, I was using Pages and I did get a spinning beachball. I could at first switch between Apps - although I could not get the Force Quit keyboard combo to work - and other apps appeared to be working fine. Then the freezing spread through them as well, and I restarted.

In previous crashes, I haven't had a spinning beach ball, I've had a cursor. And I haven't been able to switch between Apps at all, from as soon as it happened.

So I'm not sure if the above crash is something else. If I get the original crash again, I'll post that here too - although I'm about to go away for a month and will be using only my iPad, so may not be able to participate in this thread much longer. Hopefully they will release an update while I'm away!

In the meantime, I have emailed my brother who is an iPhone engineer for Apple in SF. No idea if he will help (since he tends to be tired of being bombared by the entire family's techie questions and being held to account for every failure of any Apple device!) but we'll see...

Got to say. Same thing, but mine is on wake up from sleep. Now been told to do a 3rd re-install after I have partitioned my disk and waited for Time Machine to finish its verification again.

Spent over an hour on the phone to Apple Care. Having a symatic arguement over the definition of "intermittent" got right up my nose.

Have done PRAM, SMC, reinstall, disk permissions from OSX and Recovery disk, archive install. Used App delete to get rid of "old" software I don't really use. Same issues.

Having to power it off almost every time it wakes up. Even get it in Safe Boot. Not a happy customer.

Note to self. Don't go for the first version again, regardless of the functionality.

We're having the same issue of constant freezing on our late 2008 alum Macbook - mostly when waking up from sleep. So I did a clean install and everything worked fine for a day. Then I installed Flash, Click-to-Flash Safari plug-in, and Silverlight (to watch Netflix). The freezing started again. Will try uninstalling those to hopefully narrow it down but in the meantime thought I'd report this here.

UPDATE: Just spent an hour on the phone with an Apple Care supervisor , I explained in detail how many of us are experiencing this issue and have felt ignored . He had me run a "capture data" program and then send it back to them (which I did immediately) , this is being expedited to the engineers to repair . I was told to expect to hear back from them no later than Friday . Fingers crossed for an update .
