Why Safari 6.0 will not auto complete the password ?

Why Safari 6.0 will not auto complete the password ? even when the option is selected in autofill tab, and the user-password are listed in the password tab ?

It used to work fine before I upgraded to mountain lion.

Tks

Same Problem to me. Very disappointing! BUT:

I have my doubt Safari is reading some extra HTML flags now (since 6.0) that blocks the password saving. In my case PayPal will not save my password anymore because PayPal is using the HTML tag autocomplete="off" on the password field. So basically Safari works correctly - just respecting the HTML tags. Hope this helps.

I think the problem is systemwide with Mountain Lion. Not only does Safari auto fill not work on most of my favoirite sites (it works at apple.com!) but serial numbers for some third party apps, like Event Manager for FCPX, dro out and the company has had to reset from their end. There's a bug that got through. I hope Apple fixes it.

Agreed, look like Apple must go back to the drafting board and solve this issue.

Also agree with MacTheFox, new HTML keys not accounted for.

This is unfortunate, it makes redundant the auto-fill and password tabs in preferences ... and OS X walking backward.

Tks all for your lines.

This is not just a Mountain Lion issue...

I upgraded to Safari 6 last night but I'm still running Lion 10.7.4 and I have the same issue. Some sites the ID/PW are still saved and still populated and others are missing and I'm not even prompted to re-save them to the keychain.

This is extremely frustrating becasue the sites that won't popluate or save are the ones I used the most.

Called Apple product support last night, again reinitiated Safari and few other checks, all fine. The tech said "most of the websites pages allow saving UID and PW" ... lets see, Apple may likely issue a patch on this".

For now, Safari 6.0 works fine on my end, only few web sites will allow saving my ID.

Same problem for me since upgrading to ML. Safari remembers autofills for some passwords but not others. For example my web mail password was no longer auto filled. Checked in the keychain list and all the info was there. Therefore I deleted this and tried again - but Safari did not offer to remember the password. Than ran an old script I had that is designed to "Removed autocomplete=off from 0 forms and from 2 form elements, and removed onsubmit from 0 forms. After you type your password and submit the form, the browser will offer to remember your password." Safari then offered to remember the password. I accepted this and checked that the password was then saved in keychain - it was. However, next time I tried to access the email Safari once more did not auto complete. Very frustrating, especially as some auto completes do work. I hope apple sort this out soon.

I'm now wondering if the password problem in Mountain Lion isn't also an iCloud issue. Passwords that have worked daily on my iPhone now do not autofill, basically stopped working after Mountain Lion was installed. It's a plague that should be stopped before a good rep for "it just works" gets tarnished further.

Hi. I have the same problem. I was using Safari 5.1.7. in my old iMac - no problem with username and password autocomplete, even for pages with the HTML tag "autocomplete = off". Now running Safari 6.0 in my new iMac and does not work anymore... OS X version is 10.7.4. I wonder why this was changed anyway?
