Anyone else having issues with screen sharing not working after mountain lion upgrade?
If I understand you correctly, Back to My Mac has to be enabled in order to use Screen Sharing on the LAN. Hmmm. Something new. I don't want BTMM enabled.
I just booted into ML and was able to connect via Screen Sharing to another Mac on the LAN using both the Bonjour URL and Finder sidebar method. I do not have BTMM enabled, so I don't think that's a requirement.
I'll try to remember to try again later to see if I can still connect.
Remember mountain lion is just a beta all these issues will be fixed in the fall when ios6 is relesed
Enabling the BTMM is only if you want to screen share between two networks.
After two days of fighting this problem I finally saw the post about enabling BTMM which I did and everything now works. And I only have 1 network. Go figure.
Been at this for days now. Screen sharing will for for periods of time, and then shut down and require a target computer restart. I cannot find a common denominator,
So here is some explanation. I use screen sharing and Remote Desktop somewhat interchanagbly. What I have found is that I can access remtote macintosh on my network or on another network multuple times with no problem with Remote Desktop, If I use screen sharing, I can get in once, and more times if I keep the interval between shares within 15 mons or so. After that, the second attempt to use screen sharing fails pretty consistently. Screen sharing seems to hang - it does not indicate that it failed to connect, but it does not connect either. At this point, Remote Desktop cannot get in either.
What I found is that Remote Desktop will still allow me to restart the remote mac, and once restarted, it can be accessed again either with screen sharing or Remote Deskop. After doing this enough, I realized that a screen would flash on my client mac for a split second when the remote mac restarted. It was never up long enough to view, but finally I relaized I could take screen shots and identify the screen. Turns out it is a login screen asking for a password. Problem is that the login screen never displays on my Mac trying to access the remote macntosh, so the who process hangs. There is some bug in Mountain Lion that is causing the login screen to not display, and it only happens on the second remote login, not the first, after a restart.
I am attaching the screen shot. Again, this does not display until the remote mac is restarted.
Well, I'm not sure if this worked for the Screen Share issue for me... Have tried many things today, some on my own, some from suggestons here in Discussions. Short update - I have a home network w/OS X Lion (10.7.4) on a Mac Pro (my network "hub"), also use my MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion. Have used Screen Share often on my home network from my MBPro. After the ML upgrade there were intermittant problems, rebooting the MPro, resetting the PRAM, usually restored access. Today I was banging my head.
I just installed the OS X 10.7.4 Combo updater on the MPro, turned off and back on Back To My Mac on both, now I can access the MPro screen. I'll see if this continues to work...

Screen sharing suddenly stopped for everyone on Aug 2nd. Another user posted the fix, which is a bizarre one, but try this:
Go to System Prefs>MobileMe
Click "Sign Out" (you're probably perma-signed-in)
Bingo, your screen sharing should work again.

Also having major issues with this :
Trying to screen share from a 10.7 machine to 10.8 ussing BTMM.
Only currently have remote access to the 10.8 machine, however i do know software is totally up to date.
Have ssh'd into 10.8 using BTMM and performed repair permissions, VNC client restarts, computer restarts etc.
Have repaired permissions on local 10.7 machine.
Cannot get screen share over the WAN to work no matter what at the moment.
Error Message states:
"Please make sure that Screen Sharing (in the Sharing section of System Preferences) is enabled on the computer to which you are attempting to connect. Also make sure your network connection is working properly."
Screen sharing is enabled for sure.
epic aching balls right now.
"Go to System Prefs>MobileMe
Click "Sign Out" (you're probably perma-signed-in)"
This solved it for me. Thanks EastcoasterWestcoaster!
Utterly bizarre, but this worked for me too after being frustrated for awhile. Signed out of Mobile Me and everything worked again.
oddly i'm on site now, screen sharing was still VERY slow to connect but working over LAN. Ive done the MobileME signout and everything is now up to speed.
Weird it would affect the LAN too?

I haven't seen the all OS screen sharing issue since Aug 2nd either.
I am having the exact same problem. Screen sharing not working after updating. Remote server running lion server, my mac running mountain lion. Had no problems before updating. Worked once, then not before restarting the server - then worked once again and then no more. Since this is a web server I can not keep restarting it 😟
This must be a bug from Apple. Would be nice to get a comment from Apple on this - seems like ther is a lot of people struggling with this.
The MobileMe solution would perhaps be ok, if I had mobileme in my prefs pane (which I dont!)
Perhaps relatet:
I also have some problems with TeamViewer after upgrading to mountain lion. TeamViewer simply doesn´t start!
