Black Screen after log in with Mountain Lion

For 6 times, in 8 attempts, my retina macbook pro fails to boot up. All goes black after I enter my user password and I have to press the power bottom for 3 sec to restart. It sounds like a system error, and for sure didn't happen before I installed mountain lion, should I attempt to do a fresh install? Or run any tests?

Any advice appreciated.

FWIW, I've had this problem for a couple of weeks. The form of the problem I've had is black screens that do not come on after closing and opening the lid, as well as in other situations. In many cases, rebooting the machine did not fix the problem. I sent many logs to Apple Support. TENTATIVELY, the problem has been identified as a bug in a program called Air Display. The program is designed to allow use of an iPad as a secondary display. I never had it activated, but it was the source of several kernel panics in my logs, so I have uninstalled the program. (You have to use the uninstaller to do this; you can't just delete the program.) So far, this seems to have fixed the problem for me.

So, for any of you using Air Display (even if you are not really using it) consider removing it in an effort to resolve this issue.
