Reminders error with Exchange

I have a problem with Reminders.

I have an Exchange account setup on my computer and iPhone and Reminders has worked well on the iPhone (and still does). Now that Reminders is available on the Mac I have encountered a problem with it. I can create reminders on my Mac but can't clear them. I get an error message saying; Calendar can't save the reminder "xxx" to the Exchange server. I can still mark them as complete on my iPhone and they duely get marked as complete on the Mac. I can add and delete events from the same calendar without a problem

I should add that I could mark tasks as completed in the previous version of iCal

Same thing here w/ my Exchange account. Clicking 'Try Again' alwas works but it's starting to get annoying. Marking iCloud reminders as complete works w/o a problem.

Might be bad news or Good news folks. I have had a ticket raised on this for quite some time. I even provided an account on our Exchange server for Apple to test the problem. My ticket was closed a couple of days ago

The response is a bit cryptic. You can read it as they have fixed it or that they won't fix it...

"Engineering has provided the following:

Thank you for filing this bug report.

We are closing this bug since our engineers are aware of the issue, and they have determined that the issue behaves as intended. If you have questions regarding the resolution of this issue, please update your bug report with them.

Please be sure to regularly check new Apple releases for any updates that might affect this issue. Again, thank you for taking the time to submit bugs. We sincerely appreciate your input."

I guess we will have to wait for the next release to see if it is fixed.

It might be a Exchange issue but I have been using tasks on Exchange for a long time before the reminders app was released (this feature was an integral part of the Mail application previously). I never had a problem with it then. When I made the upgrade to Mountain Lion and started using Reminders the problem showed up right away and there was not change to our Exchange server at that time. We have subsequently been applying updates to our server but the problem still persists. I strongly suspect it to be something in the Reminders application.

Not a good sign that Apple has closed the ticket on this issue. Still a problem after so many months. I hope they end up fixing it. Makes it really hard to sell the idea of using native Mac apps in a business environment that use Exchagne. We've notices other issues with Apple's implementation with Exchange. For example, a contact that was created on Exchange can't seem to have it's birthday added in Apple Contacts. We have to open Outlook 2011 for Mac, add the birthday under Personal section, wait for it to sync down to Apple Contacts and THEN we can edit/change that date in Apple Contacts.

If Outlook 2011 for Mac wasn't so ugly we'd probably just use it all the time!

There are some really strange things going on with Apple apps when used with Exchange. We are going to be switching from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 soon so I imaging there will be an array of other 'interesting' features 😟

I hope they fix all this crap soon, it is getting really annoying!

I went back to Apple to request more details and they provided a good explanation.

They said the time on my computer is fractionaly ahead of the time on our exchnage server. When the reminder completion is sent to the exchange server it is being rejected because it is happening in the future.

Now both my computer and our servers are on network time so I was not confident. Anyway I wound the time back by 2 seconds on my computer (turn off automatic update in System preferences then adjust the seconds value).

Shock horror Reminders now works perfectly.

It looks like this might be a definitive explanation. I have asked out IT team to check our servers but I'm quite happy to have my computer a couple of seconds out for now.
