New wireless router Dlink choices: DI-624, DI-624 w antenna or DWL-G710,etc

Hello. I had my last wireless router for three years (mostly without problems until someone in the neighborhood got wireless and it conflicted with mine) when my router burned up. I'm guessing it might have been from the repeated cycling every time it lost the signal to get it running again.

My last router was a D-Link. I may buy another one. I have an original Airport card.

I would like to extend/strengthen my wireless signal, to counter my neighbor's stronger signal and so I can surf while sitting outside, something I used to do when the router was located in the middle of the house versus the back (now has to pass through a couple of thick walls), and before interference became more common.

Here are some of the combos I have considered purchasing; does anyone have any advice on what might work best? I am looking for a stronger signal than my previous wireless router (a DI-614+), and better range.

1. D-Link DI-624 Wireless Cable/DSL Router, 4-Port Switch, 802.11g, 108Mbps (I realize mine will only do 11Mbps I think due to 802.11b technology built into my iBook, but mostly what they sell are backward-compatible 802.11g routers.)

2. Same router as above, but in combination with an antenna; D-Link's ANT24-0700

3. Same router as above, but in combination with D-Link's DWL-G710, a Wireless Range Extender, 802.11g, 54Mbps

My only misgiving with this choice is I am not very tech-savvy, and getting both the router and the extender talking could be challenging. Also for the money, I do not know if it would provide better range than the antenna mentioned above.

4. D-Link router DI-634M, (D-Link Super G with MIMO) which I am not sure if it is compatible with my iBook (the D-Link rep told me it was not Apple-compatible, but I read a review on Amazon from someone who bought one and has a Mac). Reviewers said it had fewer cycling problems and a tendency to hold onto its connection.

5. D-Link ANT24-0401 - This antenna has a range of over 1,000 feet per D-Link. D-link says it does not have to be ceiling mounted and can be placed horizontally next to the router. 1,000 feet sounds extreme, but walls can greatly reduce a wireless signal. My house is only 34 feet long and 1100 square feet and I have trouble holding a signal. I also live near a military installation.

I would really appreciate any suggestions! Thanks in advance.

I should have added that I have received conflicting answers from D-Link tech support, so it seemed best to post the question here, to those who have similar iBook configurations.

D-Link seems to make (overall) good routers (maybe it depends on the model), but its tech/sales support is spotty.

I considered the DI-524, but Amazon reviewers give it spotty reviews with frequent complaints of signal drops.

I am interested in any router brands that people have had good luck with, because I only have experience with one.

Thanks again for any insight or advice.

I have had excellent luck with d-link and macs working together. I have one at my old house (an older model) and one here at the new (the 624). As with most tech support, you just have to keep calling until you find someone knowledgeable who can speak english.

I tried a link-sys once because I have heard countless PC people rave about their reliability. But there is virtually no tech support for the mac (at least about 2 years ago there wasn't) and I couldn't get it working. That is when I bought a d-link. I hooked it up and it worked perfectly the first time no calls to tech support.
I would buy an airport base station if it were reasonably priced but when I looked at the d-link I believe it was around $60 with rebates and the Airport was $250.00
