External HDD Unlock

Never mind, its all sorted ,I was using the wrong UUID

How do I find the UUID when I am on the recover window. UUID dont show in the Terminal window from the Recovery Mode

Just in case anyone has the same question as bill.mcd --- from Recovery Mode's main screen (where you selected Disk Utility), you can go to the Utilities menu and select Terminal.

If you're already in Disk Utility, quit out of that, and it'll take you back to the main screen -- then select Utils > Terminal.

I have the same issue with a locked external hard drive with "this partition contains a locked disk and cannot be resized until it is unlocked". All this went haywire when I was decrypting a previous encrypted external USB hard drive. I have a lot of data on there that I don't want to lost and I'm not sure that I won't lose my data if I follow these instructions.

When I followed the initial instructions, this is what I see. I spoke to Apple support and they told me to try a data recovery app. I paid $75 for one and my hard drive doesn't even show up anywhere to have a recovery performed on it. PLEASE HELP!

Hi Tubby007, I have the same problem. I had a clean installation of OS X. After that, my seagate external HD (was encrypted) got messed up and I cannot do anything about it from disk utility UI tool. And I saw this message "his patition contain a locked disk and can not be resized until it is unlocked" in Disk Utility." However all my backup files on the seagate external HD. Were you able to fix the external HD AND recover all the files on it? Many thanks!

Hi Ben, were you able to recover your file on the HD as well?

I was dealing with an internal Apple Fusion Drive. I was able to restore the drive to a functioning state but all content was lost.

Hi, will this method delete all contents on your external hard drive? If so, is there a method that will allow you to unlock the disk without deleting the contents? Thanks

It's over three years since you answered this query......but I've had a similar problem, I followed your instructions and HEY PRESTO! my Formac external drive re-appeared on my desktop.
