Image Capture Still Broken in Mountain Lion

About 90% of the time when I plug in my iPhone or iPad, they are not detected by Image Capture. The other 10% of the time it is recognized correctly. Also note that my iPhone and iPad are always correctly recognized by iTunes 100% of the time.

This bug was present in Snow Leopard and apparently still hasn't been fixed in Mountain Lion.

Any workarounds? How do I get my iPhone to show up in Image Capture?

The "bug" is on your MBP. Launch iPhoto. In menu: iPhoto>Preferences>General. Set "Connecting Camera opens" to Image Capture.

This option is already set, and has been set for some time, yet does not improve the problem.

The only time Image Capture will launch is if you have photos in your Camera Roll. Check the cable connector as well.

I have tons of photos in my camera roll on both my iPhone and iPad, so this is not the problem.

Also, the cable connector is not the problem, since iTunes detects the iPhone and iPad 100% of the time correctly. The problem appears isolated to Image Capture (and iPhoto).
