Has Mountain Lion ruined ical/reminders integration? I can't figure it out

If I ever created a reminder, it was visible in iCal. Now, if I set a reminder on a certain day, it is NOT visible in ical. I think it's dumb having to use 2 aps to organize my week, not being able to just see everything under the same window. Is there a way to have reminders visible in ical if they're set to a specific time of a specific day?

Well, 14 months on, 7 pages of replies, a new OS X release and still the same nonsensical issue is unresolved. In response to "I much prefer my reminders to be separate from anything else", well, that's nice, but who is this code written for exactly? You personally? And why not have the option to merge the two, that way eveyone's a winner.

Keeping this thread alive is performing two important functions. Firstly it shows everyone who finds it just how many people have brought this issue up (we have no way of knowing how many reported it to Apple directly) without any action being taken, and secondly it reveals the 'if you don't like it go and shop somewhere else' attitude from support staff, after taking your $3000 or whatever to tie you into buying their software.

The very first thing after downloadng Mavericks was to check the Calendar alignment function. It still does not work (namely, alerts do not always show, alerts always disappear by themselves after some random length of time, and dismissing a single alert dismisses many).

Not too keen on upgrading any more of my machines at this point.

Did anyone find a solution to this? I've spent the last couple of years trying pretty much every task management/todo/callendar software out there, but still I havn't found one that does what I want - I'd like to have a window that shows BOTH my tasks (what I have to do today), AND my appointments (where I have to be) and yes, I think they are two different things and should be treated as such. Preferably as shown in different colours (but now I'm just being fussy:)

Ideally, I'd like to be able to create a todo list on the right/left of everything I need to do, then drag-and-drop them to the callendar at times where I feel I'll be able to do them, inbetween my appointments. So I can organise my day/week. Also, if I check off a task, it shows in both the task list and the callendar.

Currently I'm using both iCal and Reminders side by side. But its incredibly frustrating that 1. They don't talk to eachother (properly) and 2. They're not the same program! Seriously! why seperate them?

Wunderlist is currently my favourite todo list. I just like the simplicity and that it syncs across all my platforms. But it doesn't work with any callendar app. I've tried BusyCal which is almost there. But the tasks in it feel like a last minute addition. You can't show all your tasks/folders at once, and once you drag and drop them to the callendar they change into an event. I tried contacting support about this, but got the old "well, thats how I like it" response.

If anyone can suggest a piece of software that recognises the difference between tasks and events, but shows them both in a callendar I'd be hugely grateful! Until then I guess I gotta keep hacking it together with multiple programs.

Cheers

Hi Csound1, thanks for the response. But if you read my post you'll see that I said I tried BusyCal, but it doesn't have the functionality that I want. It doesn't incorporate Tasks smoothly. It feels more like an afterthought addition to the software.

E.g. I create "folders" for all my tasks - "today", "work", "home" etc... I want to be able to see them all at the same time and add to them easily. BusyCal doesn't show up Task lists if there is nothing in them. So you can't then create a new task for that list. A bit stupid if you ask me.

Also, once a task has been dragged into the callendar it becomes an "event" completely seperate from the task that created it. So if I "check" the task off as being done, it doesn't change anything in the callendar. So at a glance, I can't see whats done and hasn't been done for my day.

Lastly, dragging an task into the callendar as an event could be ok I guess, but BusyCal completely detatches it from there. If I miss doing a task during the day and want to move it to later on on the day, it doesn't update the info in the "todo" list on the right. I dont' see the point of having tasks be able to drag into the callendar if they arn't synced from there?

But, like I said. Its the closest out there, but still not what I'm after.

This would be great : merge them toegther as one piece of software. Have tasks show up in the callendar as "tasks", and update/synced/linked back and forth.

Hiya, yup. Only just recently. I actually spent a few days talking to their tech support to see if I could get working the way I wanted to. But unfortunately there is a fundamental difference between how we see tasks and events.

Oh well. Have to say though, their support was very nice and easy to deal with. But it sounded like what I was asking for would necessitate a change at the core level of thier software.

Yup. I liked it more than BusyCal, but unfortunately is has the same issues. It only lets you assign tasks to callendars. You can't create a seperate group/folder of tasks. Even if you create false callendars to create the illusion of folders - e.g. "work" "home" etc... it still won't show those task folders if there isn't anything in them. Again, stopping you from being able to create a task in them easily.

Look. The functionality of iCal is good. The functionality of Reminders is good. I like how they both work individually. I just want them to work together.

Hah! 🙂 Yeah. I think you're right. Ah well. Will keep waiting/looking. I'll definitely let you know if I find another alternative.

Just to labor the point, this is what I'd like.

Todo list that is visually as important as the callendar. Not just a small addition on the side. Since I feel its jsut as important. Then, to be able to drag and drop the todo's into the callendar and have them stay as tasks, not convert into events. Also, have them be checkable from the callendar and look a different colour too.

So at a glance I can see - what I need to DO today, and where I need to BE today.

Then, have them stay linked, so if I move a tasks time throughout the day, the displayed info in the task list updates as well.

Oh, and would be nice if all of this looked like a nice piece of design. Not some old 1990's office program (sorry, but BusyCal and a few others just look horrible)

Now, is that too hard? 🙂
