Unable to copy and paste after Mountain Lion upgrade

I have a 2011 iMac and upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion. Ever since the upgrade I've been having problems with the clipboard. Copying and pasting works fine after a fresh boot, however after some time passes it seems to stop working. Is anyone else having this issue?

I'm new to Apple (first Apple computer since the Apple IIe my parents had when I was a kid) and I just joined the board so I apologize ahead of time if there is any easy to find fix and/or discussion on this topic already.

Hi all,

Working on a MacBook Pro from 2010, after upgrading to Mountain Lion I cannot copy/ paste in Firefox or into/ out of gmail at all. Also, I cannot move the arrows inside Firefox, including on gmail. This forces me to use the cursor to find my place and the delete button, which is massively time consuming and irritating. In addition, I cannot copy/ paste across several different applications (but it works in some cases).

Does anyone have any tips on what might be going on with my browser and why the copy/paste might connected to the arrow keys?

Any help appreciated--this is driving me a little crazy!

I have the exact same problem. I called Apple Care and they said they have never heard of this problem. Never! They were very nice, but after doing this and that and that and this, their "final" suggestion was to reinstall Moutain Lion, well OK the whole operationing system. I said will I lose all my data? The guy said "I don't think so". He suggested that I look online for instructions. I kinda thought they could answer that, but hey, who knows. I do the time machine backup. I will do the MLB suggestion and see if that works. When I log out and log back in, everything is fine for "awhile", then cutting and pasting stops working in all applications. Word and Pages. I cannot drag or drop either. Not in iTunes nor Mail. 🙂 So, in a few days I will reinstall the operation system as it kinda kills using the computer. Now if it still does it after all that, then its "must" be a hardware problem. Its nice I bought the extra warranty. What else could it be??? But, I will do this MLB step. Then reinstall the OS. I have put that off. So thanks for the post......we will see.

Please post back and let us know if it works. I'm having a completely different problem with my Mountain Lion install. It's a real bad issue that's gotten me bumped up to the higher level tech support people (the ones that give you their phone number and extension). I've made sure to let him know about this NextDef/copy-paste issue which he logged. He did say that there wasn't any records in their database about this issue so it must be only affecting a few people. That's why I was so thankful to find this post. Here it is a month after installing NextDef and I'm not having that issue any more.
