Did you deliberately install pace? where did you get it from?

Some say it is malware.

If you insist on running so called "Virus Protection" software such as McAfee, and your Mac runs slowly, I feel badly for you but there may be nothing anyone can do for you.

Malware protection is best provided by:

• only using your Mac behind a Router you trust or control. Since almost all wireless is provided this way, that covers most of it. In other cases, you can enable the Firewall in your Mac.

• Not clicking on links in emails. re-type the URL instead, to be certain you are getting where you expected to go.

• Only entering sensitive information on pages that start with httpS:

• only downloading software from the site of the developer, never from third parties

• never downloading "drivers" or codecs or players to view a site when the helper software comes from the same site as the content.

• not using an Admin account for daily use. [Instead, create a new Admin account, log on to it, and demote your "Daily-Use" account to uncheck [√] user can administer this Mac.

The discussion here is having a bit odd tone. I'm experiencing the same problem, not being able to access very common sites like FB, Google, Apple etc. when I'm using Airporet Extreme's Wifi connected the ADSL router in bridge mode. When using router's own WiFi, everything works like it worked before ML.

I DON'T have any browser extension, I am using F-Secure's Mac virus protection, all browser brans behave same way (badly). I have No known viruses in ma iMac etc etc etc.

There's a real problem here although maybe millions of user are not reporting it ;-)

Not sure how you know what my macs are doing, but they are and I have talked to Apple and they helped resolve 1 issue, but not the speed it recovers from sleep. That is STILL an issue

All my Macs, Macbook Pro and second G5 were all current before upgrading to Lion including all software app updates.

G5's won't run Lion, or Mountain Lion, you are mistaken?

Remove F-Secure and try again.

It is some kind of "anti-piracy" crapware. The chances it's related to the issues are high.

I'll say, with all those 3rd party kernel extensions, the odds that one of them is causing the problems is extremely high. I would recommend uninstalling Pace, and uninstalling McAfee.

Pace may be installed by your audio software... perhaps DigiDesign is installing it?

Apparently, there are issues with ML, just as many of us described. Here is a small list of SOME of the problems that are being tested as a fix.

Apple has released the first point release of OS X Mountain Lion as a beta to developers. The beta build of OS X 10.8.1 12B13 focuses on a variety of bug fixes, but perhaps most interesting for some users is the mention of a Wi-Fi issue as a focus area, which could be related to the wi-fi dropping problems that have impacted some Macs running OS X Mountain Lion.

Other areas for developers to focus on include Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Mail app, Safari, Samba (SMB) sharing, USB, and the aforementioned wi-fi and audio issue that pertains to connections with the Apple Thunderbolt Display.

It’s unclear whether the update addresses the same wireless problems, and there is no mention of the battery drain issue that has also impacted some who have upgraded their Macs to Mountain Lion. For the wi-fi issue, this post fixes it for most people, and for the battery issue it is said aclean install resolves the problem.

The build is available to registered developers from the Mac Developer Center, and there is no timeline or expected release of OS X 10.8.1 being available to the public.

Those interested can read the full release notes at 9to5mac.

@Chopper51: I have to agree. I purchased a MBA 13 two weeks ago, which came with Lion installed. Setup was pretty straightforward, even including getting up to speed from Leopard (10.5.8) to Lion. Unfortunately, the MBA died after 10 days; I have returned it, and replaced it with a MBP 13, which came with Mountain Lion installed, so I do not have the option to downgrade to Lion.

I've been working with Mountain Lion for 4-5 hours so far, and it's been extremely frustrating. Here are two examples of things that don't work as they should:

  1. Setting a custom user account picture was fairly straightforward in Lion. It took me an hour of frustration and swearing before I found a solution elsewhere in this forum. Apple's current information in OS X Mountain Lion: Add a user picture is obsolete, and flat out useless for Mountain Lion.
  2. In Lion, I could add other programs to the Utilities Launchpad folder. In ML, this folder does not exist, and has been replaced by "Other" to which it is impossible to add new programs.
  3. In Launchpad, some programs can be deleted, others can not, with no apparent rhyme or reason.

I've been using Macs since May 1985 (starting with the original Mac 128), and Mountain Lion is, by far, the worst, most frustrating OS update I have used in the past 27 years. I'm looking forward to an update, in hopes that it will address the most egregious problems with this release. There is really no excuse for Apple to release software that is this bad.
