No Sleep Option in Windows 7

I just got a new MacBook Pro with Retina display and bootcamped it with Windows 7 Professional. After running windows update, there were some issues with the keyboard and there was no sleep option in the power management settings.

I repaired the bootcamp drivers from the DVD I had burned and that fixed both problems.

After that I started having problems where the computer wouldn't wake from sleep. Sometimes it would make noice and the capslock light would go on and off, but the only way to get the display to turn on was to plug in an external display or turn off the computer.

Most of the time the computer wouldn't sleep at all and would just shut down. When restarting windows, I would be offered the option to start in safe mode and after logging in, I had a message that windows had not been properly shut down.

Today, after booting into windows, I no longer had the sleep option in the shutdown menu or power management. I tried running the repair from my bootcamp drivers DVD again, but it didn't restore the sleep option.

I'm guessing this is a driver or firmware problem. Has anyone managed to fix it?

I worked around the issue by burning the data to a DVD, but my original issue isn't solved: I rebooted into Windows and ran the installer from the DVD. It gave me the option of Repairing or Removing Boot Camp (which our IT dept already had installed). I chose Repair. After the installer ran and I rebooted, no 2880 x 1800 resolution had been added to the display control panel (highest res still only 1600 x 1200, which of course is the wrong aspect ratio to boot).

I am wondering whether this is down to a flawed Windows installation to begin with:

- Display shows as "Generic Non-PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

- Which is some cruft from 2006

- Shouldn't there be a driver specific to the graphics card for the device?

- I know I saw the Boot Camp installer installing "ATI Graphics"; shouldn't the Display control panel be exposing that somehow?

I say "flawed Windows installation" because I know our IT dept installs from a customized Windows image. I wonder whether I'd be having this problem if they were installing from a vanilla set of authorized Windows 7 Enterprise install disks.

If you have any further thoughts, send them.

I discovered that the Display control panel does not list all available resolutions by default. In the Display control panel I clicked Advanced Settings. That brought up a dialog with the title Generic Non-PnP Monitor and Standard VGA Graphics Adapter Properties. In the Adapter tab, there is a button at the bottom named "List All Modes" which, when clicked, lists a bajillion resolutions, including our friend "2880 x 1800, High Color (16 bit)". I applied that and voilà.

Now if only I could fix the darn sleep problem (sleep still doesn't show up as an option in the Power Options > System Settings control panel). rrrgggg.

i have the exact same problem (no sleep option) and I can confirm this is only present if my macbook (13retina) is booted with wired ethernet.

connecting ethernet after startup maintains sleep option.

however, when mac wakes up it will not have the ethernet because windows can't handle plug&play with thunderbolt devices as per thoro's post.

if anyone is able to boot with ethernet plugged through thunderbolt, sleep and wake up connected to the internet please speak now..
