Calendar - Exchange sync issue

I'm having a problem with Calendar and Exchange syncing (my company uses Exchange 2010), with the following error:

"Calendar can’t save the event “Item title” to the Exchange server.

The account "Exchange" currently can’t be modified. To discard your changes and continue using the version of your calendars that’s on the server, click Revert to Server."

The options on the dialog box are:

Revert to Server

Try Again

Ignore

Syncing in general is working, i.e., items added in either system show up as they should. And, I'm not actually changing anything on the items on my MBA. The error pops up apparently randomly--so far, at least, I haven't been able to identify a pattern. I've checked credentials, which seem to be correct, and I've verified that time zone settings are turned on as I think they're supposed to be.

Any ideas?

I also experianced this problem after an upgrade to Mountain Lion.

I think it has to do with the fact that in Lion the account settings were managed from iCal, and now they are managed by the OS?

Anyway I finally solved it by:

  • Open Calendar (formerly iCal).
  • Go to the Calendar menu and select Preferences.
  • Select the Accounts tab.
  • Remove the Exchange server account which is giving you the error messages. This calendar will be removed from the Calendar app.
  • Go to System Preferences and click on the "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" pane, find your Exchange server account, and check the "Calendars & Reminders" option to re-enable your calendar.
  • Your Calendar should now sync properly.

I had to do this for all of the accounts I had set up in Calander, and haven't had any problems since.

8-andrew-8, et al:

I updated my machine with 10.8.4 and received the same error as before; however, once I a) removed the Exchange account in Calendar preferences; b) closed the program; c) opened System Preferences and checked Calenders / Reminders in the Exchange Account under the Mail, Contacts, & Calendars setting; and d) opened Calendar and put in my Exchange password, I have had no problems since.

I am currently on Day 2 of this experiment. I just home from work, opened Calendar (it had been completely closed), and have not seen the dreaded bug pop up yet. I'll let you know if the bug comes back. I'm hoping it doesn't!

My results have been mixed. I never removed my Exchange email account, but I re-added the calendar. I've gotten the Pop up of Death a few times, but when I click Retry it actually seems to work and the pop up doesn't come back. I had migrated to Google Calendar so I don't have any old entries on my Exchange and I've only recently added a few entries on my Exchange calendar. But from my limited experience so far it does seem to be working. I have time zone turned on and settings much like others in this thread. I'm curious to know if anyone else is getting the Pop Up and seeing it work when they click on Retry.

Well,

Last weekend I did a fresh install of my system with 10.8.4. Then added my Exchange account and...

Sadly GPUOD came back after a while.

It is weird, because I've found out the following:

-Not using Timezone support always throws GPUODs

-Timezone Support active but with Mexico City and any other from Mexico throws GPUODs

-Tried using Central Time using Houston, Dallas and other US cities, works for a while then GPUOD is back after some cycles.

On the last option I even reached a day working fine, but next day comes with a GPUOD since opening and never got to get it quite good since then. Sometimes it works sometimes don't.

No workaround so far.

Well, after digging a bit more I found out DavMail in SourceForge which is now doing the job with or without TimeZone support, cleaning cache, recreating accounts or whatever other trick.

Basically you need to:

1. Download DavMain from Sourceforge http://davmail.sourceforge.net/download.html

2. Temporary "Allow applications downladedf from: Anywhere" on System Preferences - Security & Privacy

3. Install DavMail.

4. Reset "Allow applications downloaded from:" to either "Mac App Store" or "Mac App Store or identified developers.

5. Run DavMail

6. Leave Exchange Protocol to "Auto" and write your OWA URL (like https://email.server.com/owa/) or EWS (https://email.server.com/ews/exchange.asmx)

7. Uncheck any protocol you won't use (I only left CalDAV HTTPS enabled) note port number (1080 in my case)

8. Remove your Exchange Calendars

9. Add new CalDAV using: your Exchange credentials (using DOMAIN\username form), and using http://localhost:1080 as CalDAV server.

10. DONE! Although a bit slow, I am now Sync'ing with Exchange and iPad/BlackBerry/Outlook are receiving push notifications 🙂

This has been the best bet I've found until Mavericks arrive. Lets hope this get fixed then.

Find more info on CalDAV under http://davmail.sourceforge.net/gettingstarted.html

Regards all!!!

Hello everyone,

I am currently on Day 10 of this experiment and have not seen the dreaded bug pop up yet. I'll let you know if the bug comes back.

This is what I did to my mid-2007 iMac:

I updated my machine with the 10.8.4 update and received the same error as before; however, once I a) removed the Exchange account in Calendar preferences; b) closed the program; c) opened System Preferences and checked Calenders / Reminders in the Exchange Account under the Mail, Contacts, & Calendars setting; and d) opened Calendar and put in my Exchange password, I have had no problems since.

Hope this helps,

Just wanted to let you know that I moved all of my sync to DavMail in the Mac.

Although a bit slower (its java) it really does the trick.

Found out that even pictures in contacts now are syncing between Mac, Exchange and (sic...) blackberry, something that its not supported natively today.

Multiple cals are also supported.

I think I'd really stick to this until I can test Mavericks.

My notes still pending to sync dough...

Have a good one!

Hi all,

Not having good news 😟

Happens that after a while doing fine with DAVMail and the whole OSX PIM apps my Mac became slow, switched back to native Mac Exchange access, for email only. Again, it worked fine sometime.

But slowliness came back and after a while it became unbearable for my MacBook Air, noticed spotlight was in an endless indexing and time machine was crazy busy.

I receive about 2000 emails per month, and write around 500, and as I usually move large batches of email to Archive or local Mailboxes, pretty sure that triggers the indexing and backup then the Air crawling.

So, weird stuff, tried same large batch operations with Outlook and the Mac did not suffer on slowliness at all and indexing is way faster.

It is sad that I'm note able to use Mail/Calendar/Contacts for my work stuff, I *really* like the simplified, neat interface it has, and organizing mail with flags is really simple and effective, I find Outlook so overloaded with buttons and options I think makes you use more time in classifying email than actually triggering related actions.

Unfortunately I can't afford making my Mac unusable by Mail unable to handle my email. So, back to Outlook, at least until I can try Mavericks.

Regards!
