My MacBook Pro OS X 10.7.4 takes at least 30 seconds to go to sleep all of a sudden. How can I fix this problem?

Suddenly my MacBook takes forever to go to sleep. It has done this in the past, and I admit I don't know what I'm doing. I googled info and found a site which instructed me to do something in the terminal, and it worked. Unfortunately the problem has reoccured and I cannot find this page again. I have looked up other support info this time and have tried to reset the power manager, which did nothing. I really need help because this is driving me crazy.

What is a case number? I took my computer to a store called Mac Depot because I am not close to an apple store, and the guy looked at my like I was stupid and proceeded to tell me that my issue "Didn't seem like a real problem." Which it wouldn't be, if it had always took 30+ seconds to go to sleep. It's just annoying now because it was always very quick to go to sleep. In addition, he attempted to keep my computer in order to check it over and I declined. I had an issue with this before and I found instructions online to correct a program in the terminal which was triggering the slow sleep response. Now that the problem has occured for a second time, I have been unable to find the article again and I don't know enough to go about changing things in the terminal on my own. But I do feel like my issue might be a running program, I just have no idea how to fix it.

***Also just reattempted resetting the SMC. It did nothing. 😟

Each issue that you report-call in to Apple Care gets a case reference number. Used to keep track of your issues since repairs have a 90 day warranty. This 90 day warranty can go over if you keep having the same issue over & over. This is why you should always take note of the number & keep in a safe place.

Are you still under warranty or have the Apple Care Protection Plan?

The default sleep operation for the MBP is what is called safe sleep. You can turn this off, but the reason its the default is for your peace-of-mind if the battery should fully discharge while you have the computer asleep.

safe sleep writes an image of your system memory to disk (more memory = more time) and then puts the computer to sleep. It enables "hibernation" if the battery should completely discharge. If the battery never discharges fully, you wake-up right away from a normal sleep. But, if the battery discharges completely, you still wake to where you were, but from an image stored to disk.

You can change this behavior using pmset from a terminal window. But, if your battery discharges fully while the MBP is asleep, you lose where you were. I would recommend leaving it as is.

If you insist on changing the behavior, do a search for macbook pro slow sleep pmset.
