iPhone calendar entries not synced with MacBook calendar

You are wrong, iCloud is not required to sync iCal, a USB cable will still work. I was able to resolve my conflict using this doc. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2481

Of course you can tether using cable to sync. I mentioned all my devices using iCloud. I do not want to connect with a cable to all the devices used in the house.

I have Mac, iPad, 3 iPods and 4 iPhones.

Same problem here. I upgraded to Mountain Lion and then at some point was forced to upgrade my iOS as well, so it's hard to say what screwed me up. My calendars are everything to me - the ease of syncing/updating is basically the main reason I bought an iPod. Droid did everything fine, but it didn't sync as seamlessly. Now I might as well just go back. It's imported some of my calendars, but not a couple of my most important ones, and it doesn't necessarily update the other ones consistently either when I sync. I try clicking the "replace all (x) info on this iphone" (contacts, calendars, etc), but it ignores me, apparently. I have had to restore my Macbook, then tried iCloud (which REALLY screwed me up), and then I had to restore it all again to undo all the damage iCloud did to my Macbook contacts and calendars. I have spent two weeks trying to fix this (and even ended up splashing out on a 3TB hard drive to make sure all the data I was playing around with was double backed up). I cannot get this to work, and it is interfering with the rest of my life in a pretty big way. I am now very sorely disappointed in Apple (this is the first problem I've had in 6 years), and my loyalty to the brand is being called into question in a big way now.

I have a slightly different problem. I use MS Outlook for my Calendar. Upon receiving an invitation for an appointment in Outlook I can add it to my Calendar on my iPhone5. However, should any change to that appointment come through, the iPhone does not amend the entry on its Calendar. Furthermore, I am unable to amend or delete that entry AT ALL! It remains in the calendar for ever. I am able to delete or edit any Calendar entry made on the iPhone directly but not external invitations.

Can anybody help? It 's really frustrating as my Calendar is very important to plan my day. I hope somebody at Apple is listening to these iPhone basic problems...I really do not want to go back to Blackberry, but if this is not sorted I will have no choice.....

I'll tell you what happened to me: I don't use iCloud, I just stick with my trusty cable.
I plugged in and in iTunes 11, I hit the iPhone button to see that activity.

There's a bar there with the name of my iPhone on it. I looked a little to the right of that and hit "info."
I scrolled down and saw where I had checked "Sync calendars" and "Sync all calendars."

I went down to the bottom, to "Advanced."

I saw "Replace information on this iPhone." I had no recollection of checking that box, but it was checked.

I unchecked it, slapped the word "test" into a date on the iPhone, synced, and I was good to go!

Our problem is much deeper than this. When the calendars are synced iTunes see the changes were done on my iphone because it sometimes offers me to "solve conflicts". However, these changes do not appear in my calendar on my mac... What did solve this problem in the past is saving all calendars to a file, deleting them from the "Calendar" on mac and then restoring from the file. It did work for a week and the iphone was synching fine, then it stopped again. I am not going to do this every week so if anyone has a better solution, please let me know.

You're making me wish I knew more, which is a good thing really. If you have an Apple store nearby, have you taken this problem to the Genius Bar? That's what I do when I just can't go any further on my own. They're good people.

I had same problem, fixed as below, no need to switch to iCloud afaics.

Delete the "Calander Cache" file and the folder "Calander Sync Changes"

from 'your-user-name'/Library/Calendars folder.

Then sync again.

Problem still re-occurs from time to time, not sure what causes it.

I suppose I need to test after each sync to make sure iPhone calendar edits have gone across to Mac. Would be nice if I could rely on it to just work, like in the old days with Palm.

I am having the same issue. I do not want to use iCloud. I have always synced via cable to iTunes. This issue is terrible, very bad, very annoying, very dissapointing, and very unnerving that i have to spend time try fo find for a solution to something should not be happening, sorry Apple, but thids is untollerable. PLEASE give a solution.

just reading your posts guys, i use icloud and its extremely simple, takes 1 minute, and you'll have ur stuff backed up forever.

1. go to settings on your iphone.

2. then icloud.

3.plugin ur apple id and pass.

4.turn on the options for contacts, calandar, etc.

your calandar, contacts, etc. will get synced to your icloud. (this replaces the info tab that is missing when you plugin your iphone to sync to your mac on itunes)

If you want to have ur calandar to give ur alerts, etc. ,while working on your mac, just be signed on to icloud on your computer @ www.icloud.com while you're working on your computer.
