Apple remote no longer works with mountain lion

The apple remote that was quite happily working with Lion no longer seems to be working with mountain lion.

I've checked with at least 3 other apple remotes I have and none of them seem to want to pair.

I've been able to pair them with another mac running Lion, but when going to the pair option under;

Preferences--> Security& Privacy --> General --> Advanced -> Pair

Pressing the menu and next for more than a minute gives me nothing on any of the remotes.

Anyone else having issues pairing with mountain lion?

*Note, each of the remotes quite happily will

I'm having the same issues. Remote does not work with quicktime or itunes. I cannot pair it. Funnily enough, however, the remote still seems to work with EyeTV!

You're not being a div, but you have misunderstood the thread. Front Row, the original software bound to the menu key, is no longer included in OS X. It has been removed since Lion.

As a result, the normal function for the remote is now what you have. For the rest of the users in this thread however, they had no functionality at all.

Hi there

Thanks for all the very useful info as this has helped me understand a lot better.

I would however like to get the front row functionality back, is this possible?

I really enjoyed using this interface with movies, music and photo's etc and I find it very frustrating having to play movies, DVD's and others through other methods.

I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Even though I did not have Plex open, disabling the remote solved the issue for me too. 😎

Thank you! Disabled Plex and re-paired in System Prefs and all working again. It was infuriating my white remote not working properly - it does now.

Although should it 'fast forward' faster than 2x speed on an avi file?

Thanks so much for the tip. I started having problems sometime after updating to Yosemite. I think that is when the trouble started but not sure if it created it. Anyway, I had installed a demo of remote buddy as well and wonder if it had anything to do with it. Anyway, I went into Plex and turned it off and it's all great now.

I have a co-worker who's remote stopped working 6 months ago. I hope this is the cause since we both depend so much on our remote for presentations.
