2012 Retina Macbook Pro WiFi problem

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro with Retina display that's been upgraded to Mountain Lion. It is having WiFi connection issues.

Specifically,

1. Upon startup it will not find the network. I have to turn off the wifi and turn it back on to have it find the network. Annoying. It used to happen only intermittently; now it happens every start up. It's getting worse.

2. It will randomly every few hours drop the wifi connection, requiring me to turn off the wifi and turn it back on.

I've tried the one fix people on here suggested: deleting the wifi network profile I use and putting it back in.

Didn't make a difference.

Has anyone found a better fix?

I'm disappointed that Apple released this version of OS with such a glaring problem. A laptop without a reliable wifi connection is a complete waste of money.

Ipad, iPhone OS 3.1.3

I've got the same MBP setup - Retina, 256GB HD, 16GB RAM - and have just started having issues with connectivity. I've mostly noticed it happening when I open my mac book (awaken from sleep) to start working. I end up having to turn my router off and back on and then my MBP connects fine. My iPhones and iPads have no problems and stay connected and operational during the same time my MBP cannot connect.

I did install that supplemental Lion update that came out a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I am also having this problem, I've tried everything posted in numorous threads and nothing has fixed the issue. Sometimes it doesn't drop for hours, sometimes it drops 3 times in a minute. I have to go to network, assist me, diagnostics, and if I go through the screens it will reconnect for anywhere from a few seconds to a few hours. This only seems to happen at work, at home I never get disconnected. I did not have a problem for 4+ years with my other macbook at work, it's a cisco wiresless access point.

Same, Brand new MBP Pro Retina, 16GB, 768GB. Wifi goes to crap regularly. When trying to transfer large files, it just stops and starts all the while. Reset SMC and PRAM, Updated OS, cleaned screen and threw in an air freshener for good meansure..... no change.

So I went out and bought a 5th Gen Airport Extreme (apple suggestion) and guess what.... No change, so don't go wasting your money on apple airports in the hope it will solve it.

IF this helps anyone at all,

I got a notification from Apple Care (logged a ticket, got a junior guy who ended up passing me through to a senior engineer who made me do some resets and clear out mu prefferences).

Anyway it seemed to be fixed at first, but again when i start to use my Bluethooth magic mouse i lost my 5GHz networks.

Yesterday i got this back from Support:

Your problem has been acknowledged by Engineering as a new bug. A fix will be released soon via the normal updates (App store) when available.

So it has been flagged as a bug

I had also problems with a second base station in my office.

After replacing that base station with a new model, reception worked fine. Probably another Draft Standard Station.

The new Macbooks are very picky about WiFi networking, reducing the link speed by means of the AccessPoint is the only option one has (it helps a lot!), as there are no settings on the Macbook to change.

Packet loss is an absolute death sentence to WiFi networking, even if you are the only one in the network.

The problem is that the MBP shouldn't really have an issue with an Airport extreme no matter how 'picky' it is. I've now got a second Airport Extreme, running both 2.4 and 5Ghz, no change, same behaviour. I don't have many options with the airport and 'slowing' it isn't on the list. I think I'm just going to have to put up with having a cable following me around until apple wind up fixing it. C'mon apple, get with the programme!

I am having the same problem on my new mac book pro retina 13" ,256gb. I am so so dissapointed as I have just sold my macbook unibody and that was running 10.8.2 and didnt have the same problem, its painful and very very dissapointed for such an expensive machine.

I have tried all the above, Using BT Hub 3 for BT Infinity Fibre (VDSL in UK), it has smart wifi. I have tried fixing it to fixed channels, tried WPA2 only, tried fixed IP , tried BlueTooth off and still same problem , its dissapointing.

PLEASE APPLE Fix before Xmas, dont wait for 10.8.3 , this needs FIXING NOW!!!!!

Well, I am happy to hear that it has been acknowledged. I work in higher education and support dozens of Macintosh laptops. I haven't seen this issue on any computer other than the new Retina systems; however, these do not have ethernet jacks, so I wonder if it is just more pronounced now.

Regardless, I've got a Retina and another user has a Retina, and I've seen it happen using different wireless networks on both systems so far. It's an elusive, yet still relentless problem. Sometimes, I can get online immediately, whereas others I was not able to for 20 minutes. PLEASE FIX!!

I ran WiFi diagnostics and saw a few lost packets, but I had to run the test four times in row to see it happen. Hopefully, Apple can isolate the problem quickly and get us an update ASAP.

Update: Oddly/confusingly kasperksy web filtering option was on the new mac book pro retina which i didnt have switched on my old mac book unibody which this replaced, and even though not immediate its seems over time that was causing network drops and safari et all to grind to a halt whilst surfing, whilst I could still ping my router from laptop so not all traffic had dropped.

2nd thing I did was to turn off my PS3 remote play feature on and putting its own wifi network right by my router, fixed ip and so far its being 99% better sometimes it doesnt re pickup network coming out of sleep, have to resellect but so far its better.

Probably a mix of everyting or redherrings, but its now not causing me problems.

The patch also came out last night (monday night 17/12/2012) for 5GHZ for mac pro retina wifi, maybe that stablized other items (but did this after the other bits)

This is a serious problem. My MacBook Pro Retina has been experiencing the same problems the last month or so. I tried reducing the packet size. That seemed to work for a couple of days, but now it is back to its old tricks. As a professional photographer I am highly dependent on a reliable network connection. MacBook Pro does not provide the reliability I need. The Apple Geniuses at the Apple Store in Phoenix denied that the problem exists. I am extremely upset. It appears that the last OS X patch was no better than Apple Maps. Is this the quality of product that we will expect from Apple in the future?
