iPad 3 - Dictation not working

For any reason dictation is not working on my iPad anymore. Did that happen to anybody else as well? Or does someone have a solution for that?

It used to be working and I have no idea what is the problem.

Hey, thanks for the advice but unfortuantely it didnt help.

Also also restored the ipad completely - did not help.

The mic is working. I have checked that.

When I start dictation speak and stop dictation it seems as if the ipad is trying to get connection but does not manage to.

I am pretty sure that it does not work since I have upgraded my iMac to Mountain Lion. There dictation works but I have the feeling since I use it there it does not work on the iPad anymore. Is that possible?

I am encountering the same problems on all iOS devices. Was trying dictation on new Mountain Lion Update on my iMac and it said that everything I dictate had to be sent to Apple to be converted to text including my contacts and any names or nicknames associated with me "to ensure better accuracy". So I tried dictation on my iPad(3) and my iPhone 4S which up until today was working just fine. Got the same result as you. Wondering if Apple wants everything we say now on any device sent through their servers - you know to keep tabs on us users...lol.

UPDATE - litterally one minute after posting my original response I turned off dictation in my Preference settings on my iMac(Mountain Lion) and tried one last time using dication on my iPad and it was like Apple through a switch and my dictation was back on! I then tried it on my iphone and it was working there too. Can the dictation on the iMac and the iOS devices be somehow linked?

Just turned dictation back on on my iMac and it seems to be working fine. In fact I'm speaking this posting using the dictation software. still working on the iOS devices too. Must be an intermittant server issue with Apple.

OR... maybe Apple was reading my post and saw that I was on to them and quickly turned off the "Big Brother" switch. Oh well at least its working...for now.

That was very interesting for me to read. I also had the feeling that dictation on my iPad is not working anymore since I am using dictation on my iMac after the Mountain Lion update.

BUT I tried the same thing: to turn dictation of on my iMac and then try dictation again in my iPad. Unfortunately I wasn't as lucky as you. It is still not working. Could you please explain to me exactly what you did ... every step and in which order?

thanks a lot in advance

Not sure I could even tell you what I did specifically and in what order. I really didn't hold out any hope that it might work. To be honest both my iPad and my iPhone 4S were acting up this morning. Siri was unbelievably slow and couldn't finish simple tasks for me. So I did a full reboot of the iPhone and that didn't seem to work either...

Wow just as I was using dictation on my iPhone to finish this post it gave up half way through giving me the three purple dots then finally giving up. I tried a couple of times with very simple dictation and no dice. My iPhones loading wheel is still spinning so I'm figuring it's a server glitch or dictation is suddenly requiring too many resources.

Now it's back working fine.

I know that I did reboot both my iPhone and iPad after I disabled dictation from my iMac but then reenable it again and it's working okay on my computer. Strange that this happened after updating to Mountain lion. Curious?

Sorry I can't be more help

So I just had the same problem and it was driving me crazy, and just when I was submitting my feedback to Apple I realized that the key clicks also stopped whenever my dictation stopped working, and also before dictation stops working I would never hear the final DING sound when I stop the dictation. So I tried to TURN OFF KEYBOARD CLICKS in the settings>sound. This worked for me! Good luck!
