Sep 26, 2012 5:32 AM in response to ltuallaby AceNeerav,- quit notes
- disconnect from the internet
- restore ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Notes directory
- relaunch notes.
- now try and do some fake editing in each note inorder to change the last modified date to most current time.
- reconnect to the internet
- let icloud sync the notes to all devices...

Jan 22, 2013 3:11 PM in response to jasonfromwoodstockby Koen V.,All,
I turned it around: not backing up Notes but backing up iCloud (and/or syncing it to another cloud provider).
Have a look at this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4910?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
For me, this is the fix. I have stopped searching for alternative apps (which don't really exist) and I'm using Notes again without really worrying about having lost any data when an empty Notes shows up.
Cheers,
Koen

Mar 10, 2013 6:50 PM in response to William Lloydby Hat7,Sorry for replying to an old topic, but I had the same issue where my Notes got deleted, and this was the key back to the them, via my Time Machine backup. These three data files, not anything else listed in this thread. THANK YOU, so much.

Apr 25, 2013 11:21 AM in response to Hat7by abaylar,If you need to get back your notes, you first disconnect from internet... Then copy your notes to a safe place (desktop).. Then delete the folder at your library and then copy the safe folder back to notes at library... you can see one old file date..that is the main file you need to get back the notes.. You can delete the other 2 new dated ones as they are copy from icloud.. Now you can enjoy opening your note.app and you will see all your old notes are back

Jul 16, 2013 7:58 AM in response to William Lloydby jlcracroft,This worked for me. I was able to copy the valuable data from the note I was missing (after re-launching notes from the backup), paste the selected text to Pages, reconnect to the internet and paste the missing data back to my current note. Thanks William!

Oct 25, 2013 12:58 AM in response to William Lloydby Kirill B.,I didnt find any better way..I did it to my father with TeamViewer,so dissconnecting from the internet was not an option. So i logged off from iCloud on his machine and did restore, work flawless.
Unchecking notes from iCloud didnt help, only log off.

Oct 29, 2013 3:56 AM in response to William Lloydby prashanthfromespoo,This works..remove the existing files, restore the 3 files mentioned below, then reopen Notes. However before reconnecting to the network you must update the last modified time of the restored notes to the current time so that iCloud does not overwrrite them.
If you dont have hundreds of files you can do this by simply by opening each note and and making a minor edit such as adding a space.
cheers
William Lloyd wrote:
So the actual database that you want is a Core Data database.
You would need to restore the contents of your ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Notes directory.
There are 3 files in there:
NotesV1.storedata
NotesV1.storedata-shm
NotesV1.storedata-wal
I think if you restore that directory to a point in time you should be able to recover the notes. However, because it syncs with iCloud, there is the possibiilty that they would be immediately deleted again from a server-side command.

Oct 30, 2013 9:47 PM in response to William Lloydby mtulyatt,Thanks for this!!!
I followed these instructions and it worked.
I disconnected from the internet first.
Coppied the files to my desktop.
Then just coppied and pasted them ontop of the current files, replacing them.
This restored my notes that I had lost.
Then I coppied the note that I wanted to keep.
Pasted it in as a new note.
This gave me two versions on the same note.
Then turned the internet back on, and it deleted the old vesion, keeping the new version.
Thanks again!!!

Dec 19, 2013 8:08 PM in response to mtulyattby DtwinJax,I was able to use Spotlight and search for the note I lost, and it brought up the name of my deleted note, which I cut and paste into a new note. Not sure how far back it goes, and if it had been updated, not sure what would have happened.
