Forcing an application to open under Rosetta

Hi

I'm trying to install the httpmail plugin for Mail, and since I have an Intel Imac, it will not work. However, I have read that if you tell it to force it to install with Rosetta, it will work. I looked up on Mac OS X help, and it said that if you click Get Info on the file, you should be able to tick the check box for it to force it to open with Rosetta, however, no such check box seems to exist.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jimbo

Hello Jimbo.

Applications aren't installed with Rosetta. Rosetta is a translation process that runs a PowerPC binary on an Intel-based Macintosh computer—it allows applications to run as nonnative binaries.

The httpmail plugin is just that - a plugin for the Mail.app, not an application. I don't think it is possible for a plugin written for the PowerPC Mail.app version to be translated by Rosetta for the Intel Mail.app version.

Sorry, yes, that is sort of what I meant. However the installation file for the httpmail plugin is an application, so I suppose what I read on the internet was that if you force the installation to run on rosetta it might work. However this doesn't seem to be an available option. I'm being stupid here aren't I and missing a point...

Are you suggesting that I force Mail application to run under rosetta?

Thanks for your help so far.

To install the plugin may require an installer but the plugin installed is not an application.

If the Mail.app version that ships with Intel Macs is Universal, try selecting run as a PowerPC binary (which requires Rosetta) using Get Info for the application via the Finder.

If this is possible, using the httpmail plugin written for the PowerPC Mail.app should work.
