Can water damage affect battery life?

Hi all 🙂

My girlfriend tipped green tea all over her MBP. Skills....

I am having an argument with insurance. Battery life has halved since original 'repair' of water damage.

They want me to prove that this can happen!

Timeline;

Tea split.

Repaired by insurance

Returned

Screen flicking off, battery life halved.

Returned to insurance.

Insurance finding no fault with battery, replaced one part to fix screen flicking off.

Help appreciated 🙂

Thanks.

There's no way to tell what water damage might do to a machine. It's certainly possible that the battery is damaged, and it's also possible that the battery is just fine and some other damage elsewhere is causing the battery to drain faster than normal.

Personally, I would never repair a water-damaged machine. You never know what parts have been damaged in ways that may not be immediately apparent, and you could end up having sporadic problems for the rest of that machine's lifetime.

CMCSK: It is our personal insurance company. I am complaining but they want some kind of proof.

Thomas A Reed: Thanks Thomas. I said the same thing about water damage, even the original repair tech said this. I will give them another call and see if they can prove the water damage is not causing the damage. Because the MPB battery life is worse than when we sent it in.

Just had a discussion with insurance.

They still want me to prove there has been damage to the battery.

They say the insurance cover applies separately to individual components in the laptop, eg cosmetic/battery/motherboard/cpu etc.

The repair agent found no water damage with the battery and that is the final statement and no cover will apply to the battery.

I will probably end up complaining through the banking onbudsman here in New Zealand that covers these types of things.
