Reminders app is Dismal

I can understand why having the Reminders app on the Mac would make new users moving from an iPad feel more at home.

But what about the rest of the Mac users that have been users for decades???

I think the problem I'm having is that the To Do lists (Reminders) have been removed from the right side of iCal (Calendar in Mountain Lion) in favor of this new dismal 2nd app strategy… I see no reason why the new reminders app couldn't co-exist with Calendar and it's right side To Do list column so that we the users have the choice.

The Reminders app even has a "Calendar" in it, proving that Reminders should maybe still be in the Calendar app and not separated out.

Another problem is that if I use separate lists to organize Reminders, the app doesn't even have a way to see all my reminders at one time? What a pain! In iCal I could not only see all my reminders I could color coded them by Calendar (list).

Also, 99% of my Reminders never have any Time, Date or Location info associated with them, so the nice new notification center dos not show them and I'm stuck forgetting about them because they are out of sight hidden away in the new awful extra Reminders app…

On an iPad or iPhone with the limited screen sizes, I can see the need for separating the info out into another app, but the screen size of most Macs is not an issue so it makes no sense to take away what was working perfectly in favor of the iPad way of doing it.

The layout and function of iCal in Tiger was the best for Efficiency and Workflow and I would love to see that return.

The way it is now just makes me sad at how much time I wast at clicking extra buttons to edit things or swapping apps or windows around on screen.

Very Sad.

Anyone else feel the same?

I couldn't agree more. I was delighted when they put the month view back in iCal. I can see the merit of bringing certain iOS features & apps in MasOS, but with this they've gone too far. If there were going to do this, they should still have left the Reminders options in iCal. Can't see why it has to be an either/or decision. Bring Reminders back in to iCal please Apple.

Be nice. The way the forums work is the person creating the post (e.g., "Reminders app is Dismal") asks a question and then people reply. Some replies are answers, but many of them are of the "me too" variety. If you're going to be a jerk, then be consistent and give static to everyone, not just me. For example, the person creating this post did not ask a question, and many above did not answer. Jeesh!

I did ask a question back at the begining.

My question was "Does anyone else feel the same way I do about this iCal losing it's ability and getting replaced by this dismal reminders app?"

When "matthewcornel" replied with:

You have got to be kidding me.Why does Apple think they can delete a major feature that many people use?

I read it as a resounding "YES" that he does feel the same way I do. 🙂 And no I still don't like it have not found a solution I like any better... I still want it put back were it was and have told Apple that many times.

iCal on my LION machine still works just fine, so thats proof that it would work if they put it back.

In the new Reminders app, you can select several reminder lists by clicking on one, then Command-clicking on others. When you do this, the reminders will all display in one window, with a header saying, for example, 3 Lists. A smaller header will show the name of each list, with each reminder under the header for its list. If you then click the Hide Reminders button at the bottom-left of the app, you get a very neat reminders app that shows all non-completed tasks in a single list.

Reviving an old thread, I know, but I did come across the same advice someone else posted to Command-click various lists... OR not listed here is another very helpful tip, which acts as an "All" option, which is to pick a list on the left and then Command-A to select and display all lists. Okay not all are shown in a single unifying list, but at least all lists are displayed at one time.
