Notification Centre Freezing Intermittently

Hello All.

I have been having a problem with notifications on 10.8, where the notication window freezes (mouse turns to beachball when over window) and the notication menu item does not work.

Apart from restarting, how would I force the notification system to restart.

Most recently, An App Store update notificationappeared, and now that corner of my screen is unsuable.

Let's all take a deep breath. This problem has been reported for over a year. Apple hasn't prioritized a fix, perhaps because not many people are affected. This is a very short thread for a year-long problem. At this point I don't expect to see a fix for 10.8 before the new Mavericks OS is released.

There have been remidies (work-arounds) are in this thread. Namely, open Activity Monitor and quit NotificationCenter. Even better, +Psi'ssolution: KillNotificaitonCenter.app. I compliled my own version and it works great.

I've been running into this problem myself lately. I was able to consistently make it so that I couldn't get to the Dock or app switcher (cmd-tab) by clicking on the Notification Center icon. I removed the .db file in ~/Library/Application Support/NotificationCenter followed by a log out/log in and that problem went away. I hope it sticks, but figured I would toss this out there for anyone else experiencing the problem to try as well.
