Is this FROM Mac TO PC?

In Windows there are some folders that are set to not allow access to from over a LAN (Network) unless there is a password set on the user account and some that need to have permissions Changed/Set to allow access to, even with a Password, and then some that simply do not allow access to and if you try to change that it can and will screw up all permissions.

So Lets start with from what computer to what computer and then post the exact folder you are trying to copy TO.

Not a problem across a network. I read and write from OS X to Windows and Windows to OS X all the time with no special program. The operating system on each computer handles all that.

When I'm on my Mac and browse the network to one of my Windows PCs the Mac is just looking for computer connected to the network. When I copy something from Mac to PC it is just Ones & Zeros. The Mac translates it into Ethernet packets from it's Drive format and the PC recieves those packets and Windows retranslates them back into Ones & Zeros in the Windows Drive format.

If it was not like that there would not be an Internet.

You really need to connect both computer to a Router. Just running a Ethernet cable from one to the other really won't work (It can but it is a long hard setup). Connecting both to your Internet Router will solve most all your problems.

Neither has to be wired to the router, they can both be connected to the router by WiFi. Both need to have Sharing turned on, and in the case of the Mac it need to have Windows Sharing turned on, and then you have to actually Share the folders or drives on each computer that you want to Copy to or from.

The speed of transfer will be the same whether the 2 computer are connect together with one wire going from one to the other or a wire from each goiing to your internet router. The speed will be less if one is connected to the router by wire and the other is connected by WiFi or if both are connected by WiFi. WiFi is much slower then Ethernet cable. Like 1/10 or less the speed.
