Same HP printer update keeps appearing in Mountain Lion.

I have an HP Envy 114 all-in-one printer, and everything was working fine until I installed Mountain Lion. Now HP Printer Software update 2.10 keeps showing up in the App Store updates section even after installing it multiple times. I'll the fixes that I've read on the internet so far seem to be for older versions of OS X. For example, when I go to the Printers folder in my Library folder there isn't a HPSmartX.framework file to delete. There are simply two HP Envy series 110 icons. This is really irritating the OCD part of me! 😝

Instead of manually deleting folders, try to run the scrubber before installing your driver(s).

1) Click on Go menu (Click the desktop, then look at the menu in the bar at the top of the page)

2) Select Applications

3) Select the Hewlett Packard Folder (if it is not there, then you can skip this entire step)

4) Select HP Uninstaller

5) Click on Continue

6) Select the printer. press and hold Control + Options + Command (Apple) keys on the keyboard simultaneously.

7) Click on Uninstall

8) You will get a popup window - "Are you sure you want to uninstall all HP Software packages"

9) Click on OK to continue

Hey!

I had the same problem. I could solve it with the following steps:

  1. Plug off all your printers.
  2. Go to Settings -> Printer and Scanner -> Right click on the white Printer list and select "Reset printing system" (unfortunately you have to reinstall all printers again at the end)
  3. Go to "Macintosh HD -> Library -> Printers" and delete the "HP" Folder
  4. Go to "Macintosh HD -> Library -> Printers -> PDDs" and delete the "Contents" Folder
  5. Then go to "Macintosh HD -> System -> Library -> Extensions" and delete ALL items in the folder which cointains "HP" (e.g. hp_designjet_series.kext)
  6. Then go to "Macintosh HD -> Library -> Image Capture -> Devices" and delete all HP devices
  7. Then go to "Macintosh HD -> Library -> Image Capture -> Support" and delete the "Hewlett Packard" folder
  8. No to controll everything:
  9. Go on the "Apple Menu -> About this Mac -> More Information -> System Profiler"
  10. There go to "Software -> Printer Software"
  11. On top you should see 4 items (printer, extensions,...)
  12. Click on each of them and look if you see some other path which contains HP or Hewlett-Packard. If there is one, copy the path and insert it in the "Go to Folder" menu in Finder and delete it.
  13. After you finished it for all four items, restart your machine.
  14. Download the newest Driver from Apples Support page. (apple.com -> Support -> Downloads -> Search for HP and Download the newest "HP Printer Drivers vX.XX for OS X")
  15. Install this on your Mac.
  16. Now you can reconnect your printers and they should install and should reappear in "Settings -> Printer and Scanner"

This solved the problem for me.
