Quicktime Player 10.0/iMove 8.0.6 not able to read MPEG-2 1080HD Linear PCM Video

I shot an hour's worth of 1440x1080 HD video with Codecs: MPEG-2 Video, Linear PCM, timecode and a bit rate of 26,535. When I try to play the video on my Macbook Pro using QuickTime Player 10.0, I get a message that says "The movie "Video Name" can't be opened. You may need to install additional software to open this type of file."

When I try to import the video into iMovie 8.0.6 (iMovie '09) by dragging the video icon from the desktop into the Project window of iMovie, the icon snaps back to the desktop without importing into iMovie.

How can I format the video file to be compatible with these 2 applications without losing any video quality?

Thanks for your help.

Would any of these plugins listed on Apple's QuickTime Software Resources Page enable iMovie '09 & QuickTime Player to work with my Mpeg-2 files?

I went to the genius bar and they told me I needed this plugin, but after dropping $20 on it, it doesn't work:

QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X

This add-on to QuickTime or QuickTime Pro provides the ability to import and play back MPEG-2 content, including both multiplexed (also known as muxed, where the audio and video tracks are interleaved together into one track) and non-multiplexed (also known as elementary) streams.

Anyone have any other suggestions?
