Hello,
I used to revert screen colors when typing in wordprocessors in order to reduce eye strain. The Control-Option-Command-8 key stroke that once MacOS provided for this purpose seem to have stopped functioning since I have upgraded to Mountain Lion. I just want to make sure if the shortcut has been truly suppressed. Alternatively it may be that some of my installed software are bugging.

I just found the answer on Cult of Mac, I am on Yosemite (10.10.2) and this works now.
Just go here:
System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts tab > then select Accessibility
there you'll find the option to re-enable the shortcut.
Hello, it'll likely be years before I boot into 10.8 again to see, but in System Preferences>Universal Access>Seeing, is it still listed with the shortcut?
The shortcut is not there, however if you go into system preferences>accessibility>display you can click the box that says "invert colors"
I wonder if you could make an AppleScript to toggle it?
Thanks for all the comments. It is not very practical to do it through system preferences, but I found a little application called Black Light that lets me do it in a more efficient manner...

Mountain Lion simply disables the keyboard shortcut so you need to turn this on to use it.
Now the same key chord of Control-Option-Command-8 will toggle the color palette inversion as before.
All you have to do is. System Preferences --> Keyboard --> Shortcuts --> Accessibility (on the list on the left), then tick the box "invert colors" on the right. You will be able to invert colors again with Control Option Command Shift 8.
