iTunes radio and stations gone off; others working

Hello,

Three days back all my iTunes radio stations in my radio playlist quit working. All the stations for which I had copy-pasted or downloaded URLs (from stations' own websites, ShoutCast, etc.) continued to work and still work. So I went to iTunes Radio and clicked a genre triangle to expand it to get the station streaming URL anew and got a message: "An error occurred while contacting . . . Check your internet connection or try again later." No genre triangle expands successfully any more.

None of this ever happened before; it's the first time I'm experiencing this.

Keeping in mind that all other radio stations and streaming audio URLs still work perfectly, I wonder if Apple changed something three days back so that those of us on old iTunes (iTunes 4 here) can't access it or whether my ISP has placed a block on iTunes?

Thanks,

KDS

Yeaaaah. there's something going on with this.. My iTunes 2.0.4 running under OS 9 isn't getting any station updates and the Radio lists are empty. Can still play the links I get from websites directly though. Ermmm.

I hit a web-radio forum and it could be that Apple is upping the ante in the radio stream listing game - and is only going for high-bitrate AAC encoded stations and has changed their listing priorities, or they have gone and done away with the access for older versions of iTunes completely. Then again, it could be some weird DNS thing.. Don't know. It was only a matter of time before this hit the wall. You CAN still find listings aplenty if you hit the Shoutcast website. A bit of a long way 'round approach but still functional.. Also the MIT Radio-locator is up still and that has terrestrial stations that you can try for as well.

KDS, I can see that you're running Tiger, so you can upgrade iTunes and so far, the version running in my living room computer (A G4 with Tiger) is not having any problems with the radio tuner.

Here's the link to update iTunes for the last version that will work in 10.4.11..

I also am having a problem with my iTunes radio playlists. I have multiple machines on my home network both wired and wireless running the Mac OS 10.5.8 and on my Windows machines XP,Vista and Win7 and the URLs for the stations has been changed and the stations no longer work.

Here is a sample of the changed URLs (from GetInfo)

This same kind of change happend on all my machines and the iTunes radio station lookup no longer work either showing an error message.

Is this a Bug or some kind of iTunes virus/trojan horse?

Never had this problem before August 2012

I will update my itunes on my misbehaving machines to see if that helps

Thanks

I thought it was a networking issue at first. Nope.

Listen to Radio Paradise through iTunes, and keep a personal radio station playlist to access all the stations I listen to regularly. 25 of 29 stations no longer play.

Looks like iTunes has changed 25 of the URLs to some other location - I can't decifer it.

I'll try Radio Swiss Classic:

In my playlist it is a mess as of today of

http://pri.kts-af.net/redir/index.pls?esid=00b7f8e01d134bc197bb41e2144ac2b1&url_ no=1&client_id=7&uid=68efed4d03ec7e45fd3978262c107180&clicksrc=xml

I had the same exact preset in a Roku radio, the above should read:

http://www.radioswissclassic.ch/live/aacp.m3u

In Radio --> Classical list it is (this one plays)

http://stream.srg-ssr.ch/rsc_de/aacp_64.m3u

Paste that into my own list and it plays

From their own website,

http://glb-stream14.streamserver.ch/1/rsc_de/aacp_64

This plays in iTunes fine

http://zlz-stream11.streamserver.ch/1/rsc_de/mp3_128

This one plays as well

And finally, perhaps I did not notice this until today, there is now a playlist titled Internet Songs which has the now 5 stations that are working from my homemade playlist - in the form of a URL heading and multiple identical stream listings below.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a page to find all the things Apple is tinkering with to at least inform you of changes so you don't think YOU did something wrong?

Most Internet Radio products use TuneIn as the Internet radio directory. Apple probably does not, is what this means.

I will open a new thread to determine the source of where the radio streams are coming from in itunes. It may be using shoutcast, which was an older protocol.

Edit: A simple Google search finds this. I imagine their primary source of radio is Live365 if it's terrestial, and perhaps Shoutcast if it's Internet.

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2020

You may want to contact Live365 if a radio station plays on their website, and does not play in itunes. But if it's a matter of correcting a URL, perhaps someone could write an applescript to do so, once we figure out what the url is. itunes supports adding streams by url.

I'd like to continue this conversation because I am experiencing the same problem (using iTunes 10.6.1 on OS 10.6.8). That is, all the radio station url's that I copied from the Radio tuner to my "Most Used Radio" playlist now do not function.

It seems that the "AAC" idea may be right: here are two urls', the first being the "old" non-functioning one, and the second being the newly found (using Radio tuner) url for the exact same station. (No endorsement here by the way, just an example.)

OLD:

http://pri.kts-af.net/redir/index.pls?esid=154f3c9dfa847a95162a36946695494c&url_ no=1&client_id=7&uid=68efed4d03ec7e45fd3978262c107180&clicksrc=xml

NEW:

http://gotradio.com/itunes/classic_rock_aacplus.pls

I note the "aacplus.pls" ending on the new, working url ...

Things that make you go "Hmmm..."

i have the same problem. actually, i put together about 60 faved radio stations from different genres in a playlist and rated them. this took me many hours of work. now they all don't work anymore. the problem is, i don't find many of the stations anymore because i don't remember, under which genre folder i found it originally. it's not possible to search in the radio section. so i can start from the beginning, listen to every single radiostation, copy my favs to a playlist and rate them again... this sks.

in addition, several radio stations no longer exist at all. some have changed their names. and itunes 11 is a complete disaster!!! 😠 😮 😟 😢 😕

WRT your comment about iTunes 11, has that been your version for a while or did you just upgrade to it? If you upgraded to it then you may need to update many of your playlist's URLs from iTunes Radio because the URLs that iTunes Radio 'sees' and/or displays are version-specific.

I have stayed with iTunes 9 (v. 9.2) and everything continues to work great.

i upgraded from 10 to 11 recently. because of the hassle with this version i stopped listening to itunes and its radios for a while. but i don't like to downgrade to 10, i'm not sure if i lose more stuff then. haven't read many positive downgraders' comments.

if i only had stayed with itunes 10... 😢

yesterday i started to reorganize the radio favs. yes, all the urls have changed in the meantime 😟
