Time for a swift kick from a warm boot! Take Alan's advice first but consider the following. As long as the computer is connected to wall power, the internal battery should not be needed to keep the date current.
Try this test. Start up. Change the date. Select restart. See if the date stays the same ( it should). Now shut down but do not turn off any power strip that the computer may be plugged into. Now turn the computer back on. The date should still be correct.
If the testing results in a correct date each time, then the computer is behaving normally and your new battery is bad or in backwards.
If you use a power strip to turn off your monitor and computer and printer all at the same time, you are cutting off the wall power that will keep the computer clock going even though the computer is turned off. A dead battery only comes into play when you pull out the power cord or use a power strip to terminate the power source.
Alan, how did you add cables without disconnecting the power cord on your pnather update post?
