kontakt samples in logic

I'm wondering if there's any way to use Kontakt samples in Logic without having the program. I have a friend who has Kontakt and was hoping to create samples on his computer and then transfer those samples to mine and use them in Logic. Is this possible? If so, how?

Thanks.

Sorry, guys, yet that's what Jeff Godbloch replied when I asked:

From: Chicken Systems <support@chickensys.com>
>Does translator support NI Kontakt 2 NKI and NKM format when converting to Exs24 format? I'm asking because I suspect you only do Kontakt 1.5.3 at most... Also, does translator support NI Kompakt so-called "monolithic" format when converting to Exs24 format?
It will convert out of K2 as of b105, out this week, and it will convert monolithic .nki files.

Do you think they're putting me on?

I'm aware that NI integrates the Translator technology in their products, but that doesn't mean that ChickenSys can't have a life of its own... Or does it?

You edited your message. So additionally, ChkSys was making translator and then they were contracted to handle the kontakt importing, etc. by NI. So Translator did have a life of it's own for years. I just haven't seen much OS X development from Translator so kind of lost my interest and don't really know how much it's developed lately.

I wouldn't say they are putting you on (I have had no experience directly with them-I am not a customer).

That's what I know/gathered. I was just surprised.

Cheers, J

So am I... And a rather pleasant surprise — provided it's true — but the best part is the conversion of monolythic files, therefore the whole Kompakt library (unless it's otherwise protected).

I'm no ChickenSys customer [yet] either, but I might as well become one if this allowed me to turn some CPU hogs into slim threads inside Logic.

hehe : ^)

btw, Was that just for WIN?

Even getting thing just mapped right is a great. EXS is a rather straightforward format-so we shouldn't set our expectations beyond that. Even if it's just to save time mapping things out because some things are easy to map in EXS, some aren't.

Okay: this is what Jeff Godbloch, Customer Service Representative at Chicken Systems, answered today:

>I can't find any info about this on your site...
JG: The docs will be updated as soon as 105 comes out, probably tomorrow.
Will this run on a Mac OS X.4.x machine, and how do I purchase it?

JG: I was referring to the Win version; the mac version will be updated with this during April. You can purchase Translator at http://www.samplerzone.com/catalog

I don't know whether this is going to be expensive, but I'll be quite happy to play that 15 GB Kontakt lib through EXS channels.

OK, everyone, there was a miscommunication and I can straighten it out.

'rockbottom' asked my assistant if Translator converted "Kompakt 'so-called' monolithic files".

He read it too fast as assumed he meant "monolith" files as related to Kontakt 2, so he answered (correctly) "It will convert monolithic .nki files.".

However, KOMPAKT "so-called" monolithic format is more likely the .nks files, not the .nki files. Those are actually more commonly called Player format, as they are used on the Kontakt and Kompakt Player instruments.

Those are NOT convertible, but Kontakt 2 generated monolithic files, which are .nki files, are convertible.

Sorry for the confusion.

Also, in regards to Mac development of Translator, that was put on hold for a long time because we committed on making the Windows version as good as it could be; then start on the porting again. Porting now as been in process for the last 3-4 motnhs or so.

When it gets updated I'd rather say when it's done, but we are committing a significant amount of time on it. Please note that our code is already Mac-compatible re: Kontakt 2 and the new Fusion Convertor made by Alesis (www.fusionsynth.com and www.fusionconvertor.com)

The MAC version of this ChickenSys Translator WILL be
able to convert the .nki files that Kontakt uses to a
format compatible with the EXS24, right?

Kontakt has many files format :
.NKI -> the program
.NKS -> Big file of protected samples ! in Wav format ???
.NKM -> Multi description
.NKB -> Bank
.Wav -> Sample file

If the .NKI or the .NKM that you are using is having .WAV file can be translated !
If it is using .NKS you are .....
