Same thing a year and a half on. Yosemite appears to have killed the reason I bought my mac mini. I rented Interstellar HD on my MacMini hooked up to my Sony Smart TV (which has no problems with HD content with its built-in Netflix etc). Naturally it didn't work, so I searched the house for a mini-display to HDMI adapter. Once found, I hooked it up and same thing. At this point the wife and I were getting fairly annoyed (me more-so due to being embarrassed). I tried my AppleTv but it showed no rental as it would only come up with the SD version (which I hadn't bought). Feeling fairly defeated and too late to try anything else I thought about what else I could do (whilst trying to sleep).
Next night I hooked up my Macbook Pro running Yosemite to the same setup using the display port. Didn't work mirrored but extending the desktop worked. So turned down the brightness on the Macbook Pro, plugged-in the optical cable and watched it..... what a ridiculous faff!! I certainly won't be buying any content from iTunes from now on. It's just a shame as no other services seem to give Dolby Digital audio as they are all web-based.
Ok, so I can't actually establish whether my Sony TV is HDCP but it must be due to playing HD content via blue-ray and built in apps.
I've tried different HDMI cables and connecting a smaller LG TV.. still no joy.
I've turned off all file and screen sharing and any programs that might cause an issue such as Airsharing.
I've turned of everything overnight and reattached and turned back on using Apple's suggested method .
I've de-authorised my iTunes account on my MacMini and then back on, but nothing I have bought works... everything else does.
When using Safari I can't view Netflix due to HDCP too, I was just using Chrome, but with the new TV it plays Netflix HD beautifully
Anyone got any ideas?
