Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
My Finder sidebar won't show Home, Desktop, Applications, All My Files -- even though they are checked in Finder Preferences.
I tried three suggestions I spotted in the forums, but didn't fix:
1. Disk utility repairs
2. Deleting 'com.apple.sidebarlists.plist' (file not in Library)
3. View - show sidebar.
I have MBA, 1.6GHz, 4GB, v10.7.4
Any suggestions?

I had the same problem and solved it a very easy way. Infact I felt pretty silly. Haha hopefully this solves your problem too.
Close all finder windows so when you click the finder icon it opens a new finder window, one with no sidebar. Then go View>Show Toolbar
Then once the toolbar is enabled, the view/hide sidebar toggle becomes activated in that same menu.

Worked great for me. I had no idea about the association between the toolbar and the sidebar. Annoying!
Click on FINDER, then Preferences. Click on General tab near the top. Half way down "New Finder windows show" (Drop down menu) Click on it.
Choose your scenario. Should work after that. Did for me.
Look for the rectangular icon at the end of the toolbar that looks like an iPhone

I found a solution to missing "finder" in my favorites. Go to "finder". Go to "preferences". Go to sidebar tab. There you will find "show items in sidebar". Just click the items you want to show in your sidebar.
This is exactly what happened to me today. You can also two-finger tap the top bar of the window and select hide toolbar. Repeat to show toolbar and that resets the size with the sidebar in place.

I have a Full Finder not launching. The culprit is Finder as Apple's crash report.
Because of that I have no access to Finder Preference and all other Finder setup windows. On the worst side scenario I can't access my folder or apps in my HD.

I have a macbook pro OS X El Capitan version 10/11/5.
My finder sidebar is there, but it only shows a "shared" option, and when I 'show' that it gives the options "queenbee" and "workgroup". I don't know what they are, but I would like my desktop, documents, pictures, downloads etc... back? How do I get those options back on my finder sidebar?
