Mac Mail automatically resizes windows sometimes...bug?

Thanks in advance for the help. I set my email window size the way I like and get tons of emails and I open and close them with no problem and the email window stays the same size, but every once in awhile, I get an email and when I open it, the window automatically resizes to a smaller size which causes all subsequent emails to stay that size until I stretch out the window again to the size I like...it is driving me nuts...is it a bug of some kind or is there a setting I can change so the window size always stays the same in Mail?

AppleCommunityMember,

Unfortunately, your solution doesn't solve the problem. If you read the whole thread, you will see that it is an unusual bug where the standard solution you offered doesn't apply.

Thanks though!

I am also continuing to experience this change to a smaller window in Mountain Lion's Mail and Classic View (Version 6.2 1499). The previous messages perfectly describe my problems. The change to smaller window happens every time I print the message.

In addition, the "Swish" noise confirming that a message is sent also disappears randomly. It reappears for a while after rebooting the MacBookAir.

When can we expect Apple to resolve this bug with Mail?

Heya Georges,

While others on this thread have the window issue, nobody else had the mail sound disappearing issue like me until you posted. And, voila, you have a Macbook Air, which is what I have so the sound effect issue seems to be confined to Macbook Air. In addition to rebooting, I can also get the sound to return temporarily by just quitting the Mail app and opening it up again. No idea what the trigger is to make it disappear again. It seems unrelated to the window issue, but who knows.

As far as timeline, I would have no idea when Apple would address this so I guess it will be fixed on a future update hopefully. I did report the bug as did another poster on this thread so hopefully that will help Apple take notice. You can report it too if you feel up to it.

Thanks for posting!

Thanks Georges,

I am using classic mode on my Macbook Pro as well and I do get the small window bug on it, but the sound bug is not on my Macbook Pro like it is on my Macbook Air...go figure. I miss those bings when a new email comes in to tell me to go over to my computer, have to rely on my iPhone for the bing. Life is tough in the 21st century...lol.

Cheers to you as well.

I have the latest update and just tried to print and the window still moved to the lower left so no change for me. Did you change any settings or do anything that you can remember that may have turned off the bug trigger? Is it a permanent change or was it just for that one print you did?

I have no idea. I have a vague memory that there was a printer update, but I can't confirm that. I did not change any settings. I didn't notice right away that it was corrected - printed several emails & opened next one before I noticed. Then actually tested it (once). Interesting how when it has been wrong and then it gets fixed and is right that I didn't even think about it.

If I remember correctly, you have a different brand printer. Is it very old (mine says 2008-2009)? Do you still get updates for it?

My printer is 2010-2011 and is updated. Really odd, makes me think one day I will change some trivial setting and it will solve the problem and then I won't remember what I changed...when you think about it, it makes sense because changing that other seemingly unrelated setting stopped it from re-sizing so probably there is another random setting somewhere that prevents the window from moving. Oh well, congrats to you, I'm jealous, you're not part of the gang anymore...lol.

Thanks for updating.

Thanks Mark. Good luck in your quest to find some solutions. Hope you read the whole thread for the partial solutions that we discovered. We figured out how to keep the window from resizing after printing, but not how to keep the window from moving to the lower corner of the screen. Although Sarah did somehow solve her window moving problem, but doesn't know how it was done. Good luck experimenting, I have learned to live with the moving window after I print. My mail sounds also disappear but not sure if that is related. Thanks.
