This is the error I am receiving.

Time Machine completed a verification of your backups. To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you.

Click Start New Backup to create a new backup. This will remove your existing backup history. This could take several hours.

Click Back Up Later to be reminded tomorrow. Time Machine won’t perform backups during this time.

Can anyone tell me why? The last back up was July24th. I am afraid to start a new back up if I have to erase everything first.

My Mac OS X version is 10.7.4

Need help with this, as I am very confused why it stopped working.

Time Capsule 802.11n (4th Gen), Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Do you mean remove ALL third party software of all kinds? In other words remove Office, Acrobat Reader and so on? Or just things like anti virus etc? I have no anti-anything software or cleaner software. I did a disk erase on the TC which found an unrepairable disk, so now use an external plugged into the TC, which is now also bringing up the same error message, though I haven't wiped that disc and don't intend to, as it currently holds more than just a backup.

I think you're right that there is probably a software issue causing some problems as well (quite a few people seem to be reporting this issue) but I think mine is also mixed with a bad HDD inside the TC.

David, I am not sure about all third party software as I do not use any of those you mention. The likes of Office etc should have been Apple certified as they stock and sell them so you are probably OK with them. Acrobat is another matter, I don't think that it is stocked by Apple. I just use Preview for reading PDFs, and Apple software creates pdfs from other documents, however to edit pdfs something else is needed which you may find in the App store. I only need to use the Apple suite as it converts all its documents to Office style and pdfs to send to others. The Apple suite is perhaps not as powerful as Office, but I no longer need that complexity. What I have recounted in this discussion thread worked for me. My Time Capsule is now 6.5 years old and still working fine. Why not connect the external drive into the Mac to bypass the TC which may have the issue that is causing the verification failures? Perhaps book the TC into the Genius bar and let them have a look at it? If there is a fault they will find it and if it is within warranty replace it or even if it is outside warranty but at fault may still replace it. Any more is outside my ability as I do not have a Computer Science degree or OSX software depth of knowledge. I just love the fact that when I switch on what I have it just works and works first time. I have never had to reload any software update and I have updated everything since 2010, iMac, iPad, iPhone and Apple TV and they all synch with each other. This never happened before I moved to Apple. I won't bore you with my woes of maintaining the many PCs I have owned, and I built some of my own, never mind trying to get the conflicting software from dozens of providers to work properly and all the rest of the PC cleanup pfaff. Regards JR

I have just noted an issue with my NAS backup using TimeMachine. Has anyone noticed data corruption of any of their drives or incremental backups just after installation of the Advanced Meter from the Gas Company, (in our case Southern California Gas)?

This occured just after the installation of the meter and the NAS is within 10 feet of where the smart meter is.

I removed a version of ClamXav and all appears to be well..

Not sure exactly what this had to do with anything, but just in case, you should never use any anti-malware software to quarantine or remove a file from any type of backup volume as it will almost certainly result in corruption.

ClamXav actually recommends against scanning your Time Machine / Time Capsule or other backup as it will simply take too long. For each and every backup on there, every file appears to be different even if they're identical, so the same files end up getting scanned over and over again.

It also provides only minimal protection as it's not possible to remove any malware that ClamXav finds - the only software that can modify a Time Machine/Time Capsule backup is Apple's Time Machine software itself.

The best course of action would be to scan your hard drive now, to remove any malware which might currently be present meaning that any infected files on your Time Machine/Time Capsule backups will simply get deleted in due course as your backup disk runs out of space. It may also be worth running a scan over your computer at a later stage if you ever have to recover it from backup.

Still no luck here. My other two computers have been and are still backing up fine to the Airport Extreme 3tb; my one computer still produces the same thing. I have attempted multiple avenues of deleting app just to see to no avail. I wish apple would do something about this. Considering how i no longer have any back ups of this computer and everyone I create a new backup, it crashes and produces the same verification error about once every 2 days.
