Best Internet security for the Mac?

Hey Guys,

Well I finally have switched my life completly over to Apple. This past year I have gotten an iPhone 4s, iPad (3rd gen), and I just purchased last week the new 2012 MacBook Pro.

My question is this... I know that there are less security threats on the Mac vs. PC. However, I still want to protect myself and not have to worry about anything. Can someone help me out and let me know what the best antivirus / internet security program for the Mac is?

I appreciate any and all answers

Thanks

Brian

Hi Linc,

Thanks for for nice post.

I originally got to this post after googling "Internet Security for Mac" because I have just started (yesterday) to receive emails from some of my contacts with "Hey" in the subject line and only a link in the email body.

I have deleted the emails and sms'd a couple of the friends to let them know.

When googling the above search, I was obviously hoping that my email had not been infected.

I use Mail to access my emails.

How may I find if my email or contact list is infected?

There is no currently known malware that could impact e-mail or the contacts on your Mac in this manner. If there is a problem, it will be on your e-mail server. See Thomas Reed's Someone is sending messages from my e-mail address!

People who recommend Intego is joking and you'll destroy your mac definitively. Some other experts recommend Intego higher then other but it is a really joke. In my opinion Intego means viruses, trojans and worms."

I have had Intego installed on my Macs for years and it has never caused any of the problems you refer to. It works most unobtrusively, a good product from the only Mac specialist security company.
