Apple LaserWriter 12/640 PS - too many copies!

A while back I was given an Apple LaserWriter 12/640 PS. It's not quite perfect in every regard (the second tray seems to jam more often than not, and the top lid is broken) but it does work reliably, if a bit slowly.
I've got it configured for LPR printing over TCP/IP. A mixture of Macintosh computers and PCs print to it. The Macintosh computers always work properly with this printer.
Sometimes when printing from the PCs (Windows 2000 SP4) I will get multiple copies of whatever I am printing. I've checked and found that I have requested only one copy.
What am I doing wrong on the PC side? Is there a method to printing from the PC that I have missed? (I don't have the owner's manual.)
