Strange problem with Logic on Mountain Lion

Hi Guys,

I'm having a really annoying issue with my copy of Logic on Mountain Lion 10.8 OS X Build 12A269 ( The latest public release)

Details:

Mac processor 2 GHZ Intel Core i7

Memory 8 GB 1333 MHZ DDR3

O.S. Mountain Lion

Logic 9.1.7 (32 Bit)

Issue:

Once channel EQ analyser is run on logics own channel EQ the system becomes extremely slow and very quickly unresponsive. The audio continues to play however any button presses or attempts to move or exit the application are futile. Eventually when it appears that that system "catches up on itself" it looks like all inputs were recorded and quickly are responded to by the system. By turning off the analyser sometimes it can avoid the problem however if the user then turns it back on the issue replicates.

TLDR:

In a nutshell - after mucking about in Logic for any period of time over 10 minutes on mountain lion it stops responding, I cant click to 'x' out of analyzers/pop up windows, all other UI Elements are unresponsive and then after about 30 second delay it all starts working again.

This issue keeps happening, I've tried basic trouble shooting.

Anyone else seeing this?? I'm using a Focusrite 8I6 Scarlett.

Also I never see the OS X Beachball when this happens.

Recreation:

1- New project

2- New audio track

3- Settings- audio to 96.0000KHZ (personal recording preference and probably not required)

4- Record (for this sample placed in MP3 audio file for test editing)

5- Activate channel EQ (at this stage no issue will occur)

6- Turn on compressor on channel (not changing any settings as S.O.P when recording)

7- Duplicate track and copy and paste audio onto the new track

8- Mute that track (this is just to simulate normal operating environment using other functions)

9- Add a limiter to the original track and add loads of tracks to simulate mixing

10- This can take some time to have this problem surface

Seeing this in the console when just after the issue occurs:

Yes, same issue here, even on the new hotness of a Retina MBP i7 2.6 quad with 16gb ram... What actually REALLY annoys me is that I cannot simply downgrade to Snow Leopard with this model. I got THIS machine to run logic on, now it's all rather useless with this truly grating problem.

Usually it is a Channel EQ but other plugins such as things like Native Instruments Massive and Ohmforce Ohmicide also trigger it (Ohmicide also has a spectrum analyzer)

Apple, judging from how many other threads I've seen about this, time for you to man up a bit and fix this, as it looks like this has been going on since a graphical rewrite in Lion?

Another great thread with tons of people affected by the issue.

I find it sad that Apple are ingnoring basic fixes in Logic ( I mean the last PPC version of Logic is still stuck with some major EXS24 load problems even though a lot of studios and composers I know are still using G5's ) I wouldn't touch Mountain Lion at present.

They seem to forget that if it wasn't for the musicians and graphic designers loyalty to their products they would have basically gone under in the 90's.

Personally I'm interested but also dreading to see what's coming in Logic Pro X. Are they going to go for the super fancy Garageband overhaul or will it be relevant to professional needs here?

Time will tell I guess.

I'm just apphauled that it hasn't been fixed already. Poor form really.

100% right. for a company thats now supposedly the most profitable in the world it can afford to do some work that people need them to do.

The frustrating (and odd) thing is that this issue also happens in Snow Leopard.

I recently did a clean install of 10.6 on the studio iMac, put nothing else on it apart from Logic (DVD version) and tested out a project with a few tracks of audio and instances of Channel EQ. Exactly the same lag and lack of transport control occurred.

So, for people to constantly refer to it as being only related to Lion or Mountain Lion (and then berating users who have upgraded their OS) is confusing, annoying and - in terms of helping to convince Apple to sort it out - counterproductive. That said, it possibly also complicates matters tenfold..

In Snow Leopard this may be a different issue, because it doesn't seem to happen to everyone. Neither my MBP i5 nor my Mac Pro Quad (orig 2006 model) is affected by using Channel Analyzers (Both of which are Snow Leopard)... Only my Mountain Lion MBPr.

Its actually quite funny to think about how much money was spent only to wait for something they should have very well caught before sending it out the door, whatever it is.

Oh boy, want to really see this problem get a heated response? to the effect of Apple banning one guy "hypnotik" for trying to help by providing a google spreadsheet for users to fill in to help apple pinpoint the cause for the problem!!

Well, since Apple is censoring him, here are basically the same posts he as made to another forum.

You be the judge as to if he should have been censored.

That's not why they banned him. I don't know which of his posts you saw before they were deleted, but he went way beyond what any forum would consider acceptable. At first he was just complaining about the issue but later on it almost seemed like he was trying to get himself banned.

"You be the judge" doesn't really apply without seeing all the things he posted that resulted in the banning.
