Is there a red light in the earphone hole? If there is take a toothpick and wiggle it around in there.
This worked for an imac 2008 with ML and 4 Gb or RAM
it didnt work for me, in fact now also the headphones or external speakers are not working
Thanks ObiJuan,2080, unfortunately it didn't work for me. For anyone who tried ObiJuan2080's solution and it didn't work, I still don't know what the problem is, but I did find a temporary way around whatever's going on.
When I boot up the computer, as soon as I hear the "bommm" tone that sounds on startup, I press down my eject key. And I hold it down until my laptop's totally up and running. I have to do this every time I boot up my computer--f I shut my computer down, I have to do it again, but it's easy enough.
I have no clue why this works, but it does work for me...a small fix for a problem that still mystifies me.
I know this is a really old thread, but I wanted to say thanks to py09 who suggested wiggling something in the audio port! This solved my problem this morning.:)
Hi,
Thank you for your suggestion. I was viewing Netflix on my macbook air and suddenly it froze and I had to restart it. The sound was suddenly gone when it came back on. I read your suggestion and located/quit the file in my activity monitor. Thank You! It works perfectly again!
